Personal Profile
I want to become a surgeon, specialising in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) surgery. I have used my opportunities and
experiences in medical school to achieve greater understanding and experience of the field, helped in Otological-
directed research projects, and attended conferences which have increased my knowledge and my determination to
enter this specialty.

Education and Qualifications


Medicine (MBBS), University of Nottingham 2015 - 2020
‘An evaluation of the ultrastructural findings in the utricle in Meniere's disease’
o An ENT surgery project, evaluating whether Meniere’s could be detected by samples of inner ear and brain
tissues.
This was presented at the ENT UK Annual Meeting in September 2016.
It is currently being prepared for publication.

‘Paradoxical response to bronchodilators in COPD’
o 20 week laboratory based project as part of the BMedSci qualification. I was directly involved in all
stages of the project, and gained many laboratory - based skills.

o Voluntary 1 week placement, shadowing the ENT surgeons, and observing procedures including
cochlear implants and audiovestibular consultations.

Clinical Attachment in Paediatrics, Nottingham Children’s Hospital Dec 2018-Feb 2019

o A 10 week placement shadowing paediatricians and paediatric surgeons from varying specialities.
o Supported a paediatric Otological medicine project looking at the effect of early-use of grommets in
children with glue ear. This is still ongoing.

Special Study Module (SSM) - ‘ENT Surgery’, Nottingham City Hospital Oct 2018
o A 4 week placement shadowing adult ENT surgeons, including scrubbing in and participating in both
cardiac and thoracic operations.

 Suturing - Interrupted, Continuous, Subcutaneous, Horizontal and Vertical Mattress
 Knot Tying - Instrument Tie, Aberdeen
 ‘Scrubbing Up’
I am familiar with: Debridement, Chest Drain Insertion, Lesion Excision and Laprascopic Simulations.
Conferences
Attended the ENT UK Annual Meeting in Birmingham Sept 2019
o Met many ENT surgeons from across the country, attended talks and gained a starting insight in the
development of the field and a look at the future of ENT surgery.
o Presented poster on BMBS research project
o Nominated for Norman Sykes ENT Speaker award

o For outstanding project work during Part II of the BMedSci on a topic related to cardiovascular
disease.
