Carsharing in Rome started in March 2005 with 5

parking areas in one of the borough of the city center
From June 2007 the service was extended to 3 other
central boroughs

In October 2009 Car Sharing was implemented further,

adding parking areas and cars within the boroughs
already served

Within 2013 the service will be

expanded to all the 19 boroughs of
the Municipality of Rome, reaching a
number of cars three times the

Improving the service - subscriptions

In order to speed up the customers’ registration process, a new

website has been designed, with a simple procedure to create the
account and to find all the informations needed to learn to use the
service.

For all the customers it’s possible to pay the service with credit
card, to edit and verify their own data and to read and download all
the invoices due for the use of the service
Improving the service – integration with PT

In order to integrate the Car Sharing

system with the PT services, the
regional PT card has been enabled on
the CS system itself
Starting from the end of 2009, new
Car Sharing customers have been
supplied with the PT card to access
the CS system

Thus, each CS customer can access

the PT services simply loading a valid
ticket on the card and PT card holder
can have their card enabled to the CS
service

The development – electric car sharing

Thanks to an agreement signed by the municipality of Rome with

ENEL, the largest italian power company, an array of new
recharging stations will be made available in the central areas of
the city, with a number of them reserved for Car Sharing vehicles
Within the frame of the same
agreement, the Car Sharing of
Rome has ongoing contacts with
Mercedes-Benz Italy, along with
TRS, the technological supplier of
the Italian Car Sharing system, the
Italian Car Sharing Consortium and
ICS – the subject funded by the
