Standards

Objective
Students will be able to (SWBAT):
Identify reasons for belonging to an organization in general, and why a member should attend a local chapter's meeting.
Explain Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA).
List reasons for belonging to DECA.
Distinguish why DECA specifically meets his or her needs.
Identify major events in the history of DECA.
Identify offices and area of membership offered by DECA.
Identify the types of membership offered by DECA.

Outcomes
Students will demonstrate competency by:
Designing a DECA recruitment poster.
Actively participating in small group discussions.
Thinking critically about their professional future and discussing how they could benefit from an organization.
Completing the exit ticket questions.

Prior Knowledge
Students will be encouraged to discuss what they want in their professional future.
Students will make connections between their hobbies and what CTSOs have to offer to benefit their interests and future.

Procedures
Starter (7 min): Introduce the PowerPoint presentation. CTSO LP.pptx Students will begin the lesson by thinking about their interests and
future career aspirations.
Practice (10 min): Students will discuss what they want for their professional future within an assigned small group.
Explore (20 min):
Detail the purpose of CTSOs and discuss the benefits that organizations have to offer.
View CTSO Idaho video and briefly introduce a list of CTSOs and our focus on DECA.
Introduce a brief history on DECA and the 5 levels of membership. Play a short video showcasing the High School Division.
Briefly cover member responsibilities, chapter information and resources
Explore (20 min): Students will return to their small groups and create a DECA recruitment poster using the information learned from the
PowerPoint.
Poster Requirements Include:
Poster must be school appropriate and include fun, exciting graphics.
Poster must feature 3 facts.
Include the DECA logo on your poster
Extend: Students who finish early are encourage to bring an extra unique aspect to their poster. Students are also encouraged to browse
deca.org for more knowledge and inspiration.
