and Consumers in Tayabas City

Keywords: Public Market, Relocation, Perception
This study aimed to find out the impacts of relocating the public market to
Brgy. Wakas to the vendors and consumers. Specifically, it determined the
different perspectives of the consumers and vendors, advantages and
disadvantages of the relocation, and the possibility of more opportunities.
Qualitative type of research specifically the phenomenological design was
employed utilizing researchers-made questions to gather data. 12 respondents
including 6 vendors and 6 consumers wherein 3 live nearby Brgy. Wakas and
other 3 live in the city were the primary source of data. Findings revealed that
only few of the respondents were in favour, while majority were against the
relocation. In terms of the impacts of the relocation, all of the vendors stated that
they might incur losses in their capital and income. Most of the consumers from
the city were not in favour, and most consumers from Brgy. Wakas mentioned
that the relocation of the public market will be beneficial and advantageous for
them in terms of distance, convenience, and accessibility. Majority shared that
the relocation will not be beneficial while only few stated that it will be
advantageous for them. Most mentioned that the relocation might provide
business and jobs to the people of Tayabas. Thus, it is concluded that the
chosen respondents have their different perspectives about the issue of
relocation. It is recommended that more guidelines and set of questions for target
vendors and consumers should be included in the supplemental material. Also,
xvi

parallel studies using longer time frame should be conducted to further qualify
the results.
