Question (Topic 2)

CLO1, C3 1. A single phase half wave controlled rectifier is connected to source voltage of
120V at a frequency of 60Hz. The load resistance is 15Ω. Calculate:
(a) The delay angle required to deliver 100 W to the load
(b) The rms source current
[8marks]

CLO1, C4 2. Investigate and explain the method used to overcome the effects appeared due to
existence of inductance load.

CLO1, C4 3. Referring to Figure-1 (a) and (b), analyze the differences between the two output
current waveform generated by a full wave controlled rectifier with inductive load.

CLO1, C3 6. The waveform in the following figure 2 shows the output inductor current of a
boost converter. Determine the peak to peak ripple current, frequency, duty cycle
and output voltage if Vs is 60V

[6 marks]

CLO1, C3 7. The input voltage of a boost chopper is 200 V. The output voltage required is
800V. The conducting time of the switch is 150μs.
