Solve Polynomial Equations (MIOAL-li-2)
II. Objectives
• Define Polynomials and rules involving operations on polynomials
• Multiply polynomials such as
a. Monomial by monomial
b. Monomial by polynomials with more than one term.
c. Binomial by binomial
d. Polynomials with more than one term to polynomial with three or more terms.
• solve problem involving polynomials.
IV. Procedure
A. Preparatory
1. Preliminary
*Opening Prayer
*Greetings
*Checking of Attendance
2. Review
“Alright class, who can tell everyone what was our lesson yesterday lesson about?
“What are the things we need to remember in adding and subtracting polynomials”
*Seems that you already understand our lesson yesterday. Are all of you ready for
our new topic for today?
B. Motivation
Motivation: The teacher will give each of the students 1 piece of candy and some
of the candies have hidden question on it. Those students who got candies with
questions will stand in front and answer the given question.
3. Activities
Solve the following polynomials equation
1) 2n 3 − n 2 − 136n = 0
2) 5x 3 + 4x 2 − 57x = 0
3) 6n 4 + 9n 3 + 3n 2 =0
4) 2n 3 + 24n 2 − 56n =0
C.Lesson Proper
“Our lesson for today is all about Multiplication of Polynomials.
Familiarize yourself with the following tiles
Stands for (+x)
Examples :
-x
X^2
+1
Monomial by monomial
To multiply monomial by simply multiply the
numerical cofficients then mutiply the literal
coefficients then multiply the literal coefficients
by applying the basic law of exponent.
Examples :
1. (x^3)(x^5)=x^8
2. (3x^2)(-5x)=15x^3
3. (-8x^2-y^3)(-9xy^8)=72x^3y11)
Monomial by polynomial
To multiply monomial by polynomial, simply
apply the distributive property and follow the
rule in multiplying monomial by monomial.
Examples :
1. 3x(x^2-5x+7)-3x^3-15x^2=21x
2. -5x^2y^3(2x^2y-3x+4y^5)=-10x^4y^+15x^3y^3-
20x^2y^8
Binomial by binomial
To multiply binomial by another binomial, simply
distribute the first term of the first binomial to
each term of the other binomial then distribute
the second term to each term of the other
binomial and simplify the result by combining
similar terms. This procedure is also known as the
F-O-I-L method or smile method. Another way is
the vertical away of multiplying which is the
conventional one
Examples :
1. (x+3)(x+5)=x^2=8x+15
2. (x-5)(x+5)=x^2=5x-5x-25=x^2-25
3. (x+6)^2=(x+6)
(x+6)=x^2+6x+6x+36=x^2+12x+36
4. (2x+3y)(3x-2y)=6x^2-4xy=9xy-6y^2=6x^2=5xy-
6y^2
5. (3a-3b)(4a+7)=12a^2=21a-20ab-3b
There are no similar terms so it is already in
simplest form
Activities
Now, find the following products and use the
tiles.
1. (3x)(x) 2.(-x)(1+x) 3.(3-x)(x+2)
Discuss with you seatmate about your
seatmates about your answers.
Analysis :
How did you solve the problem class?
Did you discuss your answer with your
seatmates?
Abstraction:
What are the steps in multiplying polynomials
V. Assessment
A. Define polynomials and its rules.
B. Exercises
1. 6x+7x
2. 3x-8x
3. 3x-4x-6x+2x
4. x^2+3x-8x+3x^2
5. x^2-5x+3x-15
VI. Assignment
Advance reading of your next topic which is Division of Polynomials on your textbook
