The relative pronoun and the form of the verb BE can be omitted to form a REDUCED
relative clause.

Example:
The police are building new more modern reformatories to install prisoners who have
been sent here from old prisons.

Reduce the following sentences.

money. She has asked her boss for a pay raise but he said no.

Possible Answers:

1. Gary is a doctor. He works 7 days a week and often works more than 14 hours per
day. He is very tired, his wife doesn’t work and they don’t have enough money to pay
their rent this month.

She loves them but sometimes feels like she could do with a rest. She asked her sister
to help her but her sister said no.

3. George is a 22-year-old university student. He loves studying but he hates exams. He

now she has nowhere to live and no money to buy food. She wants to move back
home with her parents but she is afraid that her dad won’t allow her to return home.
