Assignment no. 10

Read and analyze the questions carefully. Show your complete solutions. (Calcu 1:1)

1. An inductive load consisting of R and X in series feeding from 2400V rms supply absorbs
288 kW at a lagging Pf of 0.8. Determine X.

Given:
pf= 0.8
E = 2400V
P = 288kW

Solution:
ϴ = cos-1(pf)
ϴ = cos-1(0.8)
ϴ = 36.86989765ᵒ
P
S = cos ϴ

2. A 230V, 60Hz is connected to a coil of wire that has a inductance of 0.0556 H and a
resistance of 9.6 ohms. Find the reactive power.

Given:
V = 230V
f = 60Hz
L = 0.0556 H
R = 9.6 Ω

Solution:
V = 2πfL
V = 2π (60Hz) (0.0556 H)
V = 20.96070618 Ω
Z2 = R2 + XL2
√ Z = √ R2 + X L2√ Z = √(9.6)2+(20.96070618)2Z = 23.05452675 Ω
