LINSAG BASIC ELECTRICITY – 1CM

SEMI FINALS

Read and analyze the questions carefully. Show your complete solutions. (Calcu 1:1)

1. A coil of 1000 turns is wound on a toroidal core having a reluctance of 10^6 AT/Wb.
When the coil current is 5A and is increasing at the rate of 200 A/s, solve the energy
stored in the magnetic circuit.

2. An iron ring of

20cm mean diameter having cross sectional area of 100cm^2 is wound with 400 turns of
wire. Determine the current required in the coil to establish a flux density of 1T. Assume
the relative permeability of iron is 1000.
3. An airplane with a wing span of 50m flies at 540kph. The component of the earth’s
magnetic field perpendicular to the velocity of the plane is 0.2 gauss. Determine the
potential difference between the tip of the wing.

uncharged
capacitors of
capacitance
4microFarad
and 6microFarad
are connected in
series across a
250V DC source.
After being fully
charged, the capacitors are disconnected and are reconnected in parallel with each
other. What is the final charge stored on the 4microFarad capacitor.
5. A certain parallel-plate capacitor consist of two plates, each with area 200cm^2,
separated by a 0.4cm air gap. If the capacitor is connected across a 500V source,
determine the stored energy on it.
