Background of Ceylon biscuits limited (CBL)

Ceylon Biscuits Limted formerly known as William’s confectionery Limited is one of the
largest conglomerates in srilanka founded by Simon Arthur Wickramasinghe .
Ceylon biscuits limited (CBL leading ) is one of the fastest growing in srilanka which
manufactures and markets many brands in biscuits,cereal ,confectionery ,chocolate cakes,soya
based products ,organic fruit products and also many other catergories .CBL globally
recognized as a technology and innovation which led the producer.CBL has grown
internationally and exports its products overseas to over 55 countries.CBL came into being in
1968 when the srilankan government and the care international undertook a contract to produce
nutritional biscuits for school students .for this purpose the first biscuit factory was established
in pannipitiya, srilanka under the proposal of Mineka wikramasinghe who was the group
chairman of CBL.
In 2002 the company established CBL foods international in nearby Rannala .CBL foods
enabled the company to establish a bakery line , which was producing cakes under the name
Tiara. The new factory which was commenced its operations in 2004 .CBL also shifted its
chocolate manufacturing to the new plant.
In 2014 CBL introduced its own supermarket chain as Star united .in 2014 there were around
30 franchised supermarkets within the country.
In 2017 the company acquired a license to operate the star brand in srilanka as the Spar lanka .
CBL has won several awards for its excellence in brand ,quality, productivity and CSR.it holds
ISO 9001 ,ISO 14001 and ISO 22000 The brands of CBL are as follows;
Ritzbury[ chocolate ] , Munchee [biscuits] ,Samaayu [herbal pridge ] etc .

company which complies to increase the revenues and the sales of the biscuits .The role of the

The managers of CBL utilize and organize the resources of the organization in an effective
manner inorder to fulfill the resources of the organizational goals.The role of the leader is to
