Engineering
Experiment Title: Ohm’s Law, Series and Amendment Date December 2020 1
Parallel Circuit

AIM:

To verify Ohm’s Law using any circuit simulation tools: e.g. Matlab
(Simulink)/ORCAD PSpice/Multisim/Proteus

OBJECTIVES:

1. To investigate all the variables involved in a mathematical relationship of Ohm’s Law.

2. To test the validity of Ohm’s law.

PRE LAB

a. In your own words, explain Ohm’s law.

b. Show how a current (I) vs. voltage (V) graph can be used to determine the resistance value.

c. What are series and parallel circuits?

EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

Ohm’s Law

(a) Using the chosen simulation tool, draw the schematic diagram of the circuit shown in Figure 1.

(b) Set the value of the voltage of the battery according to Table 1 with a chosen fix value of
resistance, R.

(c) Measure the value of current, I and record your reading in Table 1.

(d) Repeat step 2-3 for different values of voltage according to Table 1.

Parallel Circuit

Figure 1

Series Circuit

(a) Draw and simulate the schematic diagram of the circuit shown in Figure 2.

(b) Measure the node voltages VA, VB and VC with respect to ground.

4. Measure the current IA, IB and IC.

5. Record all your measured data in Table 2.

Figure 2

Parallel Circuit

1. Draw and simulate the schematic diagram of the circuit shown in Figure 3.

2. Measure VAB, VBC, VB and VC.

3. Measure VB and VC with respect to ground.

4. Measure the currents I1, I2 and I3.
