Learning Objective USI.3 The student will apply social science skills to
understand how early cultures developed in North
America by:

a) describing how archaeologists have recovered


material evidence of ancient settlements, including
Cactus Hill in Virginia;

b) locating where the American Indians lived, with


emphasis on the Arctic (Inuit), Northwest (Kwakiutl),
Plains (Lakota), Southwest (Pueblo), and Eastern
Woodlands (Iroquois); and

c) describing how the American Indians used the


resources in their environment.

Pedagogy Complete this sentence by naming the technology tool and the creation activity:
Planning

In this activity, my students are going to use Google Slides to create an


informational slide about a Native American tribe that is covered in USI.3 .
Pedagogy Activity
1. The students will be learning material from
SOL USI.3 which includes information about
Native American tribes in North America. The
duration of the lesson will be three to five days.
During instruction the teacher will cover
material in the lesson with the addition of
spending a little extra time on each of the
Native American tribes mentioned throughout
the chapter.

2. Students will familiarize themselves with


the different North American Indian tribes
mentioned throughout this lesson. Students
will learn the name of each tribe, the tribe's
location, resources utilized by the tribe, etc.

3. For the specified activity, students will use the


knowledge that they have gained from this
lesson to create an informational slide about a
Native American tribe of their choice. The slide
should contain some of the following
information: name of tribe, location of tribe,
tribal resources, any other miscellaneous
information, and at least three pictures
relating to the information presented.
Information about each tribe is located in their
history books and on various handouts given to
students during class. Tribes may be
duplicated. The internet can also be used as a
resource.

4. Before Google slides is utilized, the teacher will


demonstrate the correct way to use Google
slides. The teacher will ensure that students are
able to use Google slides correctly before the
assignment.
5. Students will be given 2 days to work on and
complete this assignment in class.

6. Once students have completed their slide they


will present the completed slide to the class. In
this three to five minute oral presentation,
students will read the information off their
slide and will also give any additional
information that they feel is relevant to the
class.

Mobile App Option

1. Does the web tool you’ve chosen have a


mobile app? Yes, It does. The student can
easily download the Google sheets app from
either the Apple or Android app store. Once
downloaded, the app can then be used and
accessed at any point from any device the
app is downloaded on.
2. If the student does not have access to a
device the school will supply the student
with a Chromebook to complete the
assignment on.
