Topic: Brushing your teeth

1. Goal- The students will be able to discuss the importance of brushing your teeth.
   
2. Student Learning Objectives and Standards
1. Objective: The students will be able to use a toothbrush to clean a surface.
a. Standard - 10.5.PK.C1 Use tools that require use of fingers, hands, and/ or wrists to accomplish a
task.
2. Objective: The students will be able to identify ways to keep their mouths healthy
a. Standard - 10.2.PK.A1 - Identify fundamental practices for good health.

3. Assessment of Student Learning 

1. Pre-assessment
a. The teacher will begin by asking the students what they remember about teeth.
b. The teacher will introduce the children to the story.
2. Formative assessment
a. The teacher will ask students questions throughout the reading of a book.
3. Summative assessment
a. The students will answer questions throughout a teeth brushing activity.

1. Introduction—Engage, Motivate, Explore
a. The teacher will begin by asking the students what they remember about teeth.
b. The teacher will explain to the students they will be learning about dentist.
c. The teacher will begin to introduce the students to the book.
d. The teacher will introduce the author.
e. The teacher will introduce the illustrators.
2. Body—Explain, Extend, Make Connections
a. The teacher will begin reading the story to the children.
b. The teacher will pause throughout the story.
c. The teacher will ask the students questions about the story.
d. The teacher will introduce the students to different reasons why brushing their teeth is important.
e. The teacher will ask the students to return to the desks.
3. Closure—Evaluate Summarize, Review
a. The teacher will begin passing out the bags of markers and erasers.
b. The teacher will pass out the laminated smiles.
c. The teacher will pass out the toothbrushes and the toothpaste.
d. The teacher will explain the instructions.
i. Each of your smiles are clean.
ii. After you eat, your teeth with get dirty.
iii. When I tell you, you will draw on your picture of your smile.
iv. Then we will work on brushing our teeth.
e. The teacher will begin by asking the students what would happen in different scenarios.
i. Ex: What would happen if you only eat candy?
ii. Ex: What would happen if you did not brush your teeth?”
f. The teacher will instruct the students to draw on their teeth throughout the discussion.
g. The teacher will continue to ask questions throughout the activity.
h. The teacher will ask questions about why brushing your teeth are so important.
i. The teacher will instruct the students when it is time to brush their teeth.
j. The teacher will allow the children to clean their teeth.
k. The teacher will finish by asking the students if their teeth are clean or not.
l. The teacher will show the students different smiles.
m. The teacher will explain that teeth can get stained even when you brush your teeth.
n. The teacher will ask the students to hand in their materials.
o. The teacher will ask the students to return to centers.
