Special Education Student Teaching Final Summary

Teacher Candidate: Madeline Kraus__________________Term:_Fall: 2021 Date:_12/12/21___

School:_Rea Elementary_______District:Newport Mesa Unified_Grade Level(s):_TK-3rd SAI_____

Madeline has spent the last semester in a mild/moderate setting student teaching for
her Education Specialist credential. She has proven since day one to be a flexible and adaptable
educator. She transitioned well to in person learning, and made meaningful connections with
students in both settings. She delivered comprehensive systematic instruction to students of
multiple grade levels (TK to 3rd grade).
Madeline has been a quick and flexible learner and has collaborated effectively with her
colleagues – always willing to share her ideas in a constructive manner. She embraces feedback
and immediately puts that feedback into practice. Madeline uses researched-based
interventions to help meet the needs of her students. By making meaningful connections with
each of her students, she builds a foundation of trust with them. She values their backgrounds
and learns their individual interests. Because she creates a fun and safe learning environment,
her students enjoy working with her and are willing to take the necessary risks in their learning
processes that lead to positive outcomes. Madeline differentiates her lessons based on
individual student needs. She does this by implementing progress monitoring in her lessons
and then modifies her approach based on student feedback.
Madeline demonstrates extensive knowledge of both informal and formal assessments.
She is thoroughly trained in standardized testing and communicating testing results in an easy-
to-understand manner. Madeline uses formal and informal assessments to create IEP goals and
determine appropriate services. She also has a specialized understanding of student behaviors
and their function. Madeline understands behaviors occur when students are trying to
communicate, and it is her job to identify what they are communicating. She collects data on
specific behaviors and creates practical behavior support plans for each student.
Madeline has proven to be an excellent educator during her student teaching semester.
She is a role model for her colleagues. I predict great success for Madeline. I am confident she
will be successful in any classroom setting and will be an asset to any school district.
