Title of Activity: Toilet Paper Roll Fish

Grade Level: Kindergarten

Materials needed:

Glue

Left over tissue paper

Scraps of black and white construction paper

Toilet paper rolls

String/ thin rope

Scissors

Hole puncher

Instructions:

Walk around and assist students in need during art activity.

Create bags of materials for students prior to class

Bags would consist of:

Tissue paper

Construction paper scraps

A 5 inch String

Glue

Have the students collect bags of materials/ have a volunteer pass the bags out

Remind the students of the classroom rules on scissors and glue

Pass out glue

Pass out scissors

Begin explaining the art project/ steps

You will use your tissue paper for the fish scales

Use the construction paper for the fisheye

You will begin by cutting up your scales for your fish

Demonstrate how to cut them into a U shape

Glue your scales onto your fish

Demonstrate how to glue them on


Then begin cutting your eyes for your fish

Demonstrate how to cut the circles for the eye

Glue the eye to the fish

Demonstrate where to glue the eye on

Then begin cutting your fish tail pieces

Demonstrate how to cut lines of the tissue paper

Demonstrate where to glue your fish tails.

Instruct the students to ask for help when they are finished gluing the tail on

Hole punch holes on two sides of the toilet paper roll across from each other

Assist the students in gluing the strings to the inside of the holes/ toilet paper roll.

Integration into the classroom:

Language Arts: After reading a story about fish, the students can create their own.

Science: During an ocean unit, the students can create their own fish.

Art: The students can learn about different types of marine life and share famous paintings and artwork
and then create their own fish.
