Chapter 1: Are We Dere Yet?

❖ One morning, de alarm

soun’in’, de Kid Team wake up,
dey pack dey bags, an’ dey
gone to de countryside.*

❖ Adrian, who was de boss*, was

drivin’ de car. Rowan only
aksin’, “Are we dere yet?”

❖ Drivin’… still drivin’… dis was
takin’ hours to get dere. De Evil
Team was seeing dem.

❖ At last, everybody reach. Rowan

jump outta de car. Adrian start
back de car and drive to de
parkin’ lot.*

❖ Because de law say, yuh cyah

park nowhere but de parkin’ lot.

❖ Where Rowan was standin’,

dere was a banana tree above he
head. It had bananas on it and
dey fall down on top Rowan
head.

❖ “Ow! Ow! Ow!” Six bananas fall

on top he head. Rowan end up
gettin’ a headache*. Yuh see,
Rowan cyah stand headache.

❖ So Rowan put on de radio, and

Adrian, who was right next tuh
him, start tuh feel pressure.

❖ Reggae* start tuh play, and den

calypso*. When de song
‘Palance’ start, and Adrian hear
it, he face light up.

❖ Adrian bus’ out ah laugh. De

Evil Team overhear* and dey get
vex.

❖ Dey fire a ball straight at de Kid

Team radio and it knock down
de radio. Den de ball went
straight for Adrian.

❖ But Adrian fire straight back at

de Evil Team and dey leave.

 Chapter 2: De Peaceful
Country
❖ “Aah, de peaceful country”,
Rowan say. He face light up
brighter dan a bulb. Rowan start
tuh take pics.

❖ Rowan take off de radio. “Dats

it. Peace an’ den Order” Zinco
say.

❖ De Kid Team rush off tuh see

wat else was happening.

Country
❖ De countryside had a sign dat
say: Clifton Hill county. It had
all Rowan favorite fruit trees.
Dere was banana, mango, plum
and best of all, sugar cane.
Sweet, sweet sugar cane.

❖ It was den snack time, so

Rowan prepared a picnic wit’ a
whole set o’ fruits. It also had
soup wit’ pigtail and dumplin’*
and potato.

Country
❖ Everybody dig in and full dey
belly. Especially Rowan.

❖ Den, when everybody was full,

de Kid Team feel sometin’.
Sometin’ was bitin’ dem.

❖ “Ants!” shouted Rowan. “Ants!

Ants!” And de whole Kid Team
start to shout. “Run!” Adrian
bawl* out.

Country
❖ De ants charge straight for de
picnic mat but when dey reach,
dere was nuttin’ left to eat.

❖ De ants plod* away to de

anthill*.

❖ “Phew!” Rowan say. “Dat was

one big ant chase,” he added.

 Chapter 3: Relaxin’
❖ A strong wind come. It pick up
de sign and blow it away. But den
de wind start tuh calm down. It
drop de sign back where it
belong.

❖ Rowan and Adrian pull out some

sleepin’ bags outta Rowan huge
rucksack. Ah orange one come
out. “Whoah.” said Zinco.
“Amazing!”

❖ Den a red one come out.
“Cool!” said Rowan. “Red is
meh favorite color.”

❖ De sleepin’ bags were soon set

up. Dere was a different color
for everybody.

❖ Soon, everybody was in dey

sleepin’ bag. Dey was relaxin’.
“Aah!” say Rowan and Adrian
together. “Dis is de life!”

❖ Adrian who was stretched out
on a multicolored* sleeping bag
fall asleep quick.

❖ Zinco started tuh yawn and

Vera’s eyes was closin’ down.
Yuh could see dat Vera was in a
violet sleepin’ bag.

❖ Rowan start tuh relax. He face

light up brighter than before
because he rucksack included a
red computer.

❖ It wasn’t huge, but it had
everyting on it: Word, Power
Point, OneNote and even
plenty games.

❖ And, de HP was also wit’ ah

GPS*! Just the tool for when de
Kid Team get lost.

❖ Dere was also a digital clock at

de top o’ de GPS.

❖ Rowan start tuh use de
computer. And de best ting
about de games was dat Rowan
could play de games again and
again.

❖ Which was true. Rowan play

Train Track Builder, PipeQualux
and TicTac Letter until de GPS
say 5 o’clock.

❖ All of a sudden, Adrian and
Rowan notice de sun goin’
down. De Kid Team was
supposed tuh leave at 6
o’clock.

❖ De sun was goin’ lower and it

was gettin’ darker. Jus’ den, de
GPS say 6 o’clock. De Kid
Team pack dey bags and dey
climb in de car.

❖ Dey was goin’ back home.

❖ So de Kid Team drive home.

Dey had tuh reach home by de
light of de moon.

❖ De whole Kid Team yawn. Dey

was so tired.

❖ So dey brush dey teet’, put on

dey pyjamas, an’ dey gone to
bed.

 About De Author
Rowan Nicholas Mc Ewen is a seven-year-old boy who loves reading. He
was born in England, but spent his very early childhood in his parents’ home
country of Trinidad and Tobago.

He lived in Mumbai, India for three years and currently resides in Tripoli,
Libya. One of his favorite stories is ‘Tantie At De Oval’ which inspired him to write
this story.
