AUTHOR’S LOGIC: The author is conveying the message/idea of:

Production and Operations Management is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering research on all
topics in product and process design, operations, and supply chain management. Production and
Operations Management is published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Production and Operations
Management Society. Production / Operations Management is defined as the process which transforms
the inputs/resources of an organization into final goods (or services) through a set of defined, controlled
and repeatable policies. Production and operations managers not only oversee the making of goods or
delivery of services but also have a principal role in quality control, planning and improving systems and
customer satisfaction.

STUDENT’S LOGIC: Provides learners with an opportunity to reflect and think about how they actually solve
problems and how a particular set of problem solving strategies is appropriate for achieving their goal. What is
to be accomplished/learned?
In support on the Author’s argument, Production management deals with manufacturing of products like
(computer, car, etc) while operations management cover both products and services. By policies, we refer
to the rules that add value to the final output. The value added can be in different dimensions, but the
industrial set-up is mostly concerned with the duo of quality and throughput.
Production management has now become an independent branch for study and specialization with
interdisciplinary approach. Although, the tasks of production in organizations are assigned to those who
have exposure to technical and engineering disciplines, with management inputs or knowledge they can
function better, as timely delivery, productivity, cost effectiveness and quality are now considered crucial
for sustaining the competitive pressure.

I learned in our prayer that the greatest obstacles most of us need to overcome to grow in  our faith
is the idea of self-sufficiency. To surrender ourselves to the feet of the Lord and realizing that it is the
only way to touch the universal consciousness.

My action today is to get a clear on my vision, make my plan, and take  action. I don’t want to pause and
wait because if I did, I’d lose the will to move forward and allow doubt to creep into my minds.

In our lessons for today, I have learned about:

1. The Production and Operation department of a business firm is one of the essential departments
responsible in managing resources and procedures related to the daily operation of the business.
2. Organization Abilities refers to the ability of an operation manager to manage various task and
priorities accordingly.
3. Coordination refers to the ability of the operation manager to deal and relay concerns and
matters within the department and other departments.
4. People Skills efers to the ability of the operation manager to communicate and ideal with
different people: superiors, other managers, subordinates and even people outside the
organization like suppliers and regulators.
5. Marketing is responsible in developing and innovating the products and services that production
and operation should produce and offer.
6. Finance provides the necessary fund to support material and machines purchased.
7. Human Resource provides the necessary manpower to create products by processing materials
and operating machines using the appropriate and required methods.
8. Human Relations Theory and Behavioral Science Theory is the Two Main Theories contributed
by this School Thought.
9. Theories developed and contributed by this management school of thoughts are: Quantitative
Theory, System Theory, Contingency Theory, and Operational Theory.
10. Productivity is an overall measure of the ability to produce a good or service. More specifically,
productivity is the measure of how specified resources are managed to accomplish timely
objectives as stated in terms of quantity and quality.
I will memorize the above learning points, explain them in my own words, and apply them in our activities.
