Topic: Board Games for Teaching English Prosody to Advance EFL Learners by Kacper
Lodzikowski and Mateus Jekiel

Instruction: Identify the research part, as followed:

a) Research question;
There are two research questions related to this paper, they are:
1. How can the use of Board Games can increase the students’ engagement and
performance?
2. What differ the class that use the Board Games to increase the students’ engagement and
performance compare to classes without Board Games?
“Based on the research questions above, we decided that, this study is using an
experimental study where the purpose is to see if the Board Games could help learners
engage more with the topic, and, as a result, learn it better”

b) Research design;
The research design of this article is Explanatory Sequential. It can be proven because the
prior data is quantitative that can be defined from the test by using board games. It focuses
on the learners’ in class engagement, learners’ performance on assessment (Quantitative,
page:5). However, the qualitative data is collected from the survey to fulfill the evidence of
the used of board games in students’ engagement and supported by learners’ perceived
related to the usefulness of games (page 5)
“In this observational study, the main explanatory variable is whether a topic was
supplemented by a board game”

c) Research method.
In collecting the data, the researcher prepared the open ended and closed ended questionare
as explained below:
1. Use the midway test in each semester and also the final exam in the end of the
second semester (can be seen at page 3).
2. Aside of test, the researcher also did the evaluation survey that need to be completed
by the learners at the end of the course (can be seen at page 7) 3
