Appendix 1
The secure disable mode is a mode that is selected to protect the workers from any unattended restart of the
compressor.
When the secure disable mode is selected (phase II and III machines), the end-user must start/stop the
compressor as described down below :
•To enable & start the compressor : first 8.09 turned to “Enable” (pull E-stop) then 8.02 turned to
“Active” (switch toggle switch to “start”)
•To stop & disable the compressor : first 8.02 turned to “Inactive” (switch toggle switch to “stop”) then
8.09 turned to “Disable” (push E-stop)
The drive trips on “Secure Disable” any time one of this two procedures is no followed : 8.09 turned to
“Enable” while 8.02 is already “active” / 8.09 turned to “Disable” while 8.02 is still “active”
The “Secure Disable fault can not be reset automatically by the drive. Has to be done manually, with the
following procedure :
Three situations that are to be considered in accordance with the design of the product :
•E-stop is hit while the compressor is running Î drive trips once the E-stop is pushed. The VSD will show a
“Secure Disable” alarm.
•Power outage that lasts more than 200ms Î trips once the power comes back if the toggle switch is still on
the “start” position. The VSD will show a “Secure Disable” alarm.
•The “secure disable fault” is triggered right after a resetable fault, when the drive tries to reset the fault. The
VSD will show a “Secure Disable” alarm.
•Defective E-stop Î the state of the output signal coming from the E-stop changes “by itself”, without
touching the red button (mechanical problem within the E-stop)
•Wiring issues or loose connections within the drive (harness connected to the drive) or with the E-stop (8.09
turns to 0 any time the SDI1 input is no longer connected to the +24V supply)
•Vibrations related issue (relays in the drive opens due to vibrations) – Contact Ingersoll Rand.
Danger
Please utilise extreme caution when performing work within the compressor. Wear appropriate PPE 14
(Personal Protective Equipment), follow lock out-tag out procedures, and ensure all safety procedures.
Appendix 1 cont.
Depending on the frequency with witch the drive trips on “Sec. Disable”, we can consider that some
explanations are more likely than others.
•If there is a problem with the wiring, the connections, the E-stop or a problem of vibration, we can expect the
drive to trip several times a day or even an hour.
•If the drive trips only few times a week or less, the problem may come from the supply (power outage)
Every information is important and may help the us to find the root cause of the problem.
Example : if the drive trips on “sec. disable” only when running at certain speeds, that may suggest a
vibration related issue.
Danger
Please utilise extreme caution when performing work within the compressor. Wear appropriate PPE 15
(Personal Protective Equipment), follow lock out-tag out procedures, and ensure all safety procedures.
Appendix 2
The compressors are fitted with one or two thermal sensors (depending on the generation of the
compressor) to detect any overheating and stop the unit when the temperatures are over the limits.
– Phase I and Phase II units : only one sensor (HATS switch) on the compressor itself
– Phase III units : HATS switch plus a thermal sensor within the motor
Note : On Phase III units, the two sensors are in series, which means that the drive trips on “User 1”
anytime one of these two sensors opens.
The drive trips on “User 1” to protect the units from overheating. Anyhow, several other issues might lead
to such trip.
– Defective sensors (HATS switch and/or thermal sensors in the motor) Î sensor trips even though
the temperatures are still below the limit
– Wiring issues or loose connections within the drive (harness connected to the drive) or with the
HATS switch or with the thermal sensor in the motor
Depending on the frequency with witch the drive trips on “User 1”, we can consider that some explanations
are more likely than others.
– If there is a problem with the wiring, the connections, or the sensors themselves, we can expect
the drive to trip almost continuously or at least several times an hour.
– If there is a problem with the cooling, we can expect the drive to always trip after several minutes,
when the temperatures exceed the threshold limits.
– If the drive trips only few times a week or less, the compressor might actually exceed the
temperatures from time to time
After opening, it takes several minutes for the HATS switch and the motor thermal
switch to close – The drive keeps tripping on “User 1” if attempt is made to restart
the compressor during this period of time

Please utilise extreme caution when performing work within the compressor. Wear appropriate PPE 16
(Personal Protective Equipment), follow lock out-tag out procedures, and ensure all safety procedures.

CDC
When plugged into the RJ45, this will allow the technician to have access
to the drive internal values for troubleshooting. The connection for the
CDC is located under the compressor canopy.
No attempt should be made to tamper with the CDC parameters and
adjustments must not be made to the original settings.

The potentiometer is for setting the desired pressure, by rotating Left or Right.
A green light will lit on the Intellikey and will stop after about 10s
confirming that the desired settings have been successfully
down loaded into the compressor. The Intellikey should now be
removed.
3. The Unigy compressor now has the desired customized settings and
is now ready for operation. You will now, need to set the desired
pressure by rotating the potentiometer and select the compressor
fixed or variable speed with the toggle switch.
Danger
Please utilise extreme caution when performing work within the compressor. Wear appropriate PPE 18
(Personal Protective Equipment), follow lock out-tag out procedures, and ensure all safety procedures.

but will not start Plug in CDC to view parameter 8.02, the display should read
DISABLED. When the start button is depressed, the readout will
display ENABLED momentary.Check Control Voltages and DC Bus
If the above checks are bad, check E-stop operation.
Check the position of the fixed / variable speed selector for it's
position, choose your desired setting.
Plug CDC into compressor and with the up and down arrows, go to
parameter 8.04. This parameter should read ENABLED for variable
speed and DISABLED for fixed speed.
Compressor will not run
With CDC, press the up and down arrows to view parameter 7.01.
variable speed Rotate the potentiometer from left to right, the value you should read
is 97% (47% TAS) or better when completely turned to the right. If the
value is less than 97% (47% TAS), investigate further
Program might not be in keyed properly, test with new key
If the above checks are good, replace drive.
Check the incoming power supply and circuit breaker to the blower
Check for 24 volt DC power supply from the drive to the blower motor
relay when the start button is depressed. You will also see a red light
on the relays when the start button is depressed.
Blower motor will not
run With power off, see if blower will rotate freely by hand.
If the drive 24 volt DC output is not there, replace drive.
If you have the 24 volt DC to the relay and circuit breaker ok then,
replace blower motor.
Red indicator light is on If compressor does not run, drive has a fault, CDC will be needed to
view the fault code.
and motor icon appears
If compressor runs, check wiring between drive health relay (pin17)
in indicator window and hourmeter (loss of signal).
