I. Derivation of general formulas. (5 points each)

Show how the general formula of the Arithmetic Sequence is formed. (Refer to page 102)

We now establish a formula that

explicitly expresses the general
term of an arithmetic sequence in
terms of the variable n. This formula
is called a closed formula. From
the recursive formula, we see that.

Now, it seems that

Where is the general term,
is the first term, n is the position of the term and d is the common
difference
Show how the general formula of the Geometric Sequence is formed. (Refer to page 115)

Since geometric sequences are also

subject of the restrictions of the
recursion. It is beneficial to establish
an expression for the general term of
such sequence. The first few terms of a
geometric sequence can be
expressed as follows.

This leads us to the conjecture that:

Where is the general term,

is the first term, r is the common ratio
and n is the position of the term

II. Angles
A. Draw the Angles (1 point each)

1. 225o 2. -300o 3. -1,125

B. Conversion of angle measure. Solution must be shown. (1 point each)

C. Coterminal Angles. Solution may not be shown. (1 point each)

1. What is the 2nd negative coterminal angle of 45o?

2. What is the 2nd negative coterminal angle of -120o?

3. What is the 1st positive coterminal angle of 5ᴨ/4?

III. Unit Circle: Complete the table below. (16 points)

IV. Problem Solving. Show the illustration and solution. (5 points each)

1. A ball is placed on the ground which is 20 ft away from a building. If the angle of elevation
is given to be 60o, calculate the height of the building.

2. A 20ft ladder is resting against a 15ft tall house; calculate the angle of elevation between the
base of the ladder and the ground.

3. A man on a 30-meter observation tower measures the angle of depression of a boat to be 55o.
How far is the boat from the tower?
