CHAPTER III

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of data collected from the
randomly selected Grade X students of San Miguel National High School, during the
S.Y. 2019-2020. First, it discussed the frequency distribution of absenteeism of the
students and followed by their academic performance within the first quarter. Lastly, it
discussed the significant relationship between absenteeism and the academic
performance of the students.

Table 4

Frequency Distribution of Absenteeism of Grade X Students

Number of Frequency Percentage (%) Description

absences
5 and above 5 16.67% Severe
absenteeism
2-4 13 43.33% Moderate
absenteeism
0-1 12 40% Mild absenteeism

The table above shows the frequency distribution of absenteeism of the

respondents within the first quarter. The first column shows the range of absences of
the students. The second column is the frequency with the total number of 30
respondents. The third column shows the frequencies that are converted into
percentage and the last is the remarks.

It is shown in the table that 5 out of 30 students with a percentage of 16.67% got
the total number of absences 5 and above with a description of severe absenteeism.
There are 13 students with a percentage of 43.33% got the total number of absences 2-
4 with a description of moderate absenteeism and there are 12 students with a
13

percentage of 40% got the total number of absences 0-1 with a description of mild
absenteeism.

It is shown in the table that most of the students got the total number of absences
2-4 with a percentage of 43.33% with a description of moderate absenteeism and there
are only 5 students who got the total number of absences 5 and above with a
percentage of 16.67% with a description of severe absenteeism.

Table 5

The Academic Performance of Grade X students

Range of Grades Frequency Percentage (%) Description

90-100 3 10% Outstanding
85-89 2 6.67% Very Satisfactory
80-84 16 53.33% Satisfactory
75-79 9 30% Fairly Satisfactory
Below 75 0 0% Did not Meet
Expectations

The table above shows the academic performance of the respondents within the
first quarter. The first column shows the range of grades of the students. The second
column is the frequency with the total number of 30 respondents. The third column
shows the frequencies that are converted into percentage and the last is the remarks.

In the grades of respondents during their first quarter, 10% or 3 out of 30

students got the range of grades 90-100 with an Outstanding academic level, 6.67% or
2 out 30 students got the range of grades 85-89 with a Very Satisfactory academic
level, 53.33% or 16 out of 30 students got the range of grades 80-84 with a Satisfactory
academic level, and 30% or 9 out of 30 students got the range of grades 75-79 with a
Fairly Satisfactory academic level while none of the respondents got a grade of below
75.

It is shown in the table that most of the students got the range of grades 80-84
with a Satisfactory academic level.

Polygon Graph

The Polygon Graph above defects the relationship between the general average
grade of the students and their absences.

It is shown in the polygon graph above that there are 6 students who got the total
number of absences of 3 but have garnered different general average which is 75, 78,
79, 80, 81 and 82. There are 3 students who got the total number of absences of 2 but
have garnered different general average which is 80, 82 and 83. There are 5 students
who got the total number of absences of 1 but have garnered different general average
which is 80, 82, 83, 84, and 87. There are 2 students who got the total number of
absences of 4 but have garnered different general average which is 77 and 81. On the
other hand, there is 1 student who got the total number of absences of 5 and garnered a
general average of 79. Furthermore, there is 1 student who got the total number of
absences of 9 and garnered a general average of 78. There is 1 student who got the
15

total number of absences of 10 and garnered a general average of 75. There is 1

student who got the total number of absences of 11 and garnered a general average of
81. Lastly, there are 3 students who got the total number of absences of 0 but have
garnered a different general average of 93 and 95.

It is shown in the polygon graph above that there is a negative moderate

correlation between absenteeism and the academic performance of the students. In
fact, if the number of absences is low the general average is high and when the number
of absences increases the general average will decrease. Therefore, student’s
absenteeism is inversely proportional to their academic performance.
