1 Introduction Lab 1

1.1 Introduction
This report presents the results of 2D drawings for the SN74HC139 series IC (Integrated Circuit)
devices and also describes about the process involved in making these drawings. In addition, it will
also discuss how to use AutoCAD software. In addition, this report will also describe the methods
and components used like example Trim, Line, Mirror, Copy, Circle, Dimension, Annotation and etc.
Among the drawings that need to be produced are Top View of IC, Tape and Reel Dimensions, Plastic
Small Outline and Electronic Schematic Drawings. This assignment is very useful for students
because they can practice their drawing using AutoCAD software.

1.2 Objective
The objective for this task is

i. Students are proficient in drawing standard technical drawings using AutoCAD tools.
ii. Students can build electrical and electronic engineering drawings using AutoCAD software.
iii. Able to apply basic knowledge of technology to broadly defined methodological processes,
systems and procedures in the automation of the electronics industry in the future.
iv. Able to solve problems related to 2D drawings by using the correct tools and techniques in
AutoCAD software.

1.3 What is a Technical Drawing?

A technical drawing, also known as an engineering drawing, is a detailed, precise diagram or plan
that conveys information about how an object functions or is constructed. Engineers, electricians,
and contractors all use these drawings as guides when constructing or repairing objects and
buildings. Other than that, why technical drawing is so important is because technical drawings
bridge the communication between designers, the people who come up who come up with ideas,
and producers, the people who put those ideas into practice. They’re designed as a universal
language to be understood by engineers, contractors, and architects. There are several types of
technical drawing including Mechanical Engineering Drawing, Electrical and Electronic Drawing and
also Architectural Drawing.

7
1.4 Introduction od AutoCAD
AutoCAD is computer-aided design (CAD) software that architects, engineers, and construction
professionals rely on to create precise 2D and 3D drawings. Many things that we can do in AutoCAD
such as draft, annotate, and design 2D geometry and 3D models with solids, surfaces, and mesh
objects. Furthermore, it can automate tasks such as comparing drawings, counting, adding blocks,
creating schedules, and more.

Figure 1- 6: AutoCAD 2022

1.5 Electronic Schematic Diagram

Schematic diagrams are typically associated with electronic circuits or electrical circuits. Also called
wiring diagrams or circuit diagrams, these diagrams show how the different components of a circuit
are connected. In these diagrams, lines represent connecting wires, while other elements like
resistors, lamps, and switches are represented by standardized symbols called electrical schematic
symbols. In electronics field, having a schematic diagram on hand may help a user design an entire
circuit easily before building it, or troubleshoot an electronic that has stopped working. Schematic
diagrams may also be used to explain the general way that an electronic functions without detailing
the hardware or software used in the actual electronic.

This is an example of an electronic circuit built using Autocad :

Figure 1- 7: Electronic Schematic Diagram

2 Components and Methods

8
2.1 Components

2.1.1 AutoCAD
Computer-aided design software (CAD software) refers to a type of software program used by
designers and engineers to create two-dimensional and three-dimensional models of physical
components.

2.1.2 LINE
You can invoke the LINE command by choosing the LINE tool from the Draw panel, or you can also
invoke the LINE tool by entering LINE or L at the Command Prompt. You will have to specify the
starting point of the line by clicking the mouse then you will be prompted to specify the second
point. You can terminate the LINE command by pressing ENTER, ESC or SPACEBAR

2.1.3 CIRCLE
A circle is drawn by using the CIRCLE command. You can draw a circle by using six different tools, i.e.,
by specifying center and radius, by specifying center and diameter, by specifying two diametrical
ends, by specifying three points on a circle, tangent to two objects, tangent to three objects.

2.1.4 RECTANGLE
You can draw rectangles by specifying two opposite corners of the rectangle, specifying the area and
the size of one of the sides, or specifying the rectangle’s dimensions.

2.1.5 MIRROR
This tool is used to create a mirror copy of the selected objects. The objects can be mirrored at any
angle. This tool is helpful in drawing symmetrical figures. On invoking this tool, you will be prompted
to select objects. On selecting objects to be mirrored, you will be prompted to enter the first point of
the mirror line and the second point of the mirror line. A mirror line is an imaginary line about which
the objects are mirrored.

2.1.6 COPY
This tool is used to make the copies of the selected objects and place them at the specified location.
On invoking this tool, you need to select the objects and then specify the base point. Next, you need
to specify the second point where the copied objects have to be placed. You can continue specifying
the second point for creating multiple copies of the selected entities.

2.1.7 MOVE
The Move Tool is used to move one or more objects from their current location to a new location
without changing their size or orientation.

2.1.8 MULTILINE

9
Multilines are objects that can consist of up to 16 parallel lines. The individual lines in a multiline are
called elements. Like polyline segments, several connected multiline segments form a single object.
Draw multilines using the MLINE command.

2.1.9 HATCH
The Hatch command in AutoCAD is used to fill patterns inside an enclosed area. The patterns are
hatched, gradient, and solid fill.

2.1.10 DIMENSION
The DIM command automatically generates a preview of a suitable dimension type to use.
Supported dimension types include the following: Vertical, horizontal, and aligned linear dimensions.

2.1.11 FILLET
The fillet command is used to create rounded edges between the adjacent lines and faces in 2D and
3D. It is also used to connect two tangent arcs in 2D.

2.1.12 EXPLODE
Explodes a compound object when you want to modify its components separately. Objects that can
be exploded include blocks, polylines, and regions, among others.

2.1.13 DESIGN CENTER

The Design Center in AutoCAD provides access to other drawings, hatches, blocks, etc.

2.2 Method

10
The method of producing this drawing will be described in the form of a flow chart. This makes it
easier for students to understand the process of producing this drawing

4 Discussion

4.1 Discussion about Lab 1

This Lab 1 task using Autocad was initially difficult to perform, but after learning the ways or
techniques to use this AutoCAD software everything became much easier. In addition, the
applications available on Autocad are also attractive and easy to operate such as Line, Circle,
Rectangle, Mirror, Copy, Move, Dimension, Text, Design Center and many more. With this AutoCAD
software various types of circuits and drawings can be produced easily.

33
However, every thing has its bad sides just like Autocad. There are a few problems
encountered while using this software for example such as when using this software the laptop
becomes lag or does not responding due to its large size. Also, due to its application or component it
is too much so its difficult for users to find the component they want to use.

4.2 Problem Encountered

For lab 1 assignments there are some problems encountered such as when not setting the value or
unit of drawing to be used, the measurements on the drawing will be affected and may cause the
drawing to be too large or too small. In addition, not entering the title block first will also cause
problems on the drawing at the end of the process.

4.3 Solution
To solve this problem, first of all students need to set the unit of measurement that will be used
when making the drawing, then need to insert the title block at the beginning. These two steps are
very important to smooth the drawing process and the plot process at the end.

5 Conclusion

5.1 Conclusion about Lab 1

In conclusion what I gained from this assignment was, that I was able to learn how to produce
drawings from various angles and types of drawings, I was also able to use the new components I
learned while producing these drawings.

34
Moreover, I am also aware that to produce a work or drawing using computer software is
not an easy thing. I am also interested in learning more about this AutoCAD software. With the skills
I have, I can apply while working later in the future
