WHAT DOES
HALLOWEEN MEAN?

Halloween is the contraction of All Hallow's Eve.

Halloween is the pagan holiday that was
celebrated in Ireland on October 31, when the
harvest season was ending and the "Celtic New
Year" began.
In the past it was called Samhain festival

HIS STORY

During the Samhain festival it was

believed that the souls of those who
had died returned to visit their
homes, and it was also believed that
those who had died during the year
traveled to the other world.
TRADITIONS
People built bonfires in the hills to relight their
home fires during winter and scare away evil
spirits, and they sometimes wore masks and other
disguises to avoid being recognized by the ghosts
believed to be present.
WHY HALLOWEEN
IS CELEBRATED?
The celebration of Halloween as we know it
today is due to the arrival of the Irish to the
United States and Canada in 1840, who
celebrated this date, but without all the hype
with which we know it.
The holiday grew thanks to Elizabeth Krebs,
who turned it into a costume party and
celebration in 1912, but it wasn't until 1921 that
she became popular with the parade honoring
the day that occurred in Minnesota.
Being a totally American celebration, it spread
around the world in the 79s and 80s due to the
influence of Hollywood and television series.
What do you do on
Halloween?
On that night the children dress up and go out to the streets to ask
for sweets in their pumpkins singing the popular 'Triki Triki
Halloween'.
Some adults go to work in their best disguise and on the weekend
there are parties in bars and houses in which the requirement is to be
disguised.
