Pitch Video Guide

The video should succinctly communicate your ideas and showcase your vision for the project.
The content should be engaging and informative, showcasing the projects unique selling points,
visual style and intended impact to potential investors. You will demonstrate your ability to create
promotional materials to sell the project to potential investors. Investors in this context may be
locations owners, cast and crew that are investing time into your project or financial investors that
might back your project and build you a budget through a crowdfunding campaign. The video can
be used as part of a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign to raise an actual budget to
support your project.

Duration:
Your pitch video must not exceed 3 minutes in duration.

Content: (not an exhaustive list):


 What is the film title? Why is it called that?
 What is the film’s subject matter?
 Who are you? (the filmmaker)
 Why has the subject matter been chosen? why is the subject important to the you?
 What do you want to say about the subject as a filmmaker? What impact do you want the film
to have on its audience?
 What research has influenced the ideas and development of the film?
 How will the film provide a unique/new angle or perspective on the subject matter?
 Who are the main characters or contributors? What is special about them?
 How will the characters/contributors story communicate your subject matter?
 What is your vision for the look of the film?
 What is your vision for the sound of the film?
 Who else will you be working with?
 What additional resources do you still need to confirm for the project?
 What is the proposed project timeline/milestones?
 How will the completed film be distributed?
 What is the proposed/target budget for the film? how will the crowdfunding money be used?
 Why should people invest (time/money/resources) in this project?

Style:
 You are filmmakers and your pitch video will be representative of your creative and technical
competence.
 You should approach putting this pitch video together as you would for any short non-fiction
film.
 You should consider how you will use creative images and sound to sell your project to
investors and not simply deliver a talking head to camera.
 You can combine test footage, archive, concept art, stock images/video, music, sound design,
voice over, interviews etc.
 We are looking for the style and the content of your pitch video to effectively engaging the
audience and ultimately convince more people to invest in your project.
