Unknown words
1. Leverage – кредитне плече - the degree to which an investor or a
business uses borrowed money. High leverage means greater risk;
Leverage is the reason some people become rich and others do not become rich.
2. To cling – чіплятися, хапатися - to hold tightly or to stick;
I’d rather welcome change than cling to the past.
3. Gambling – азартні ігри - to risk money on the result of a game, race,
or competition;
It is not gambling if you know what you’re doing.
4. Distinction – відміність - a difference between two similar things;
An important distinction is that rich people buy luxuries last, while the poor and
middle class tend to buy luxuries first.
5. Mindset – мислення - a person's way of thinking and their opinions;
Getting rich begins with the right mindset, the right words and the right plan.
6. Capacity – здібності - someone's ability to do a particular thing;
When you are forced to think, you expand your mental capacity. When you expand
your mental capacity, your wealth increases.
7. Tremendous – величезний - very great in amount or level,
or extremely good;
We all have tremendous potential, and we all are blessed with gifts.
8. Struggle – боротьба - a fight;
Financial struggle is often the result of people working all their lives for someone
else.
9. Fortitude – сила духу - courage over a long period;
You must have the fortitude to continue on.
10. To defeat – перемагати - to oppose and cause someone to lose in
a competition or war so that you can win;
Failure defeats losers.
Collocation
1. Keep expenses low - зменшувати витрати;
Keep expenses low, reduce liabilities, and diligently build a base of solid assets.
2. To throw money into – вкладати гроші в;
It is gambling if you’re just throwing money into a deal and praying.
3. Common sense - здоровий глузд;
Simple math and common sense are all you need to do well financially.

Phrasal Verbs
1. To get ahead – випереджати, бути успішним – outgo, to be successful in
the work that you do;
Often in the real world, it’s not the smart who get ahead, but the bold.
2. To give up - відмовлятися - to stop trying to do something before you
have finished, usually because it is too difficult;
The more a person seeks security, the more that person gives up control over his life.
3. To go on – переходити - to move to the next thing or stage;
After grade six, these kids and I would go on to the public intermediate and high
school.
4. To wind up – опинитися - to come to be in a  particular  situation  or
condition,  esp. a bad one;
Someone had drawn a jog in the line for the school district, and we wound up in
school with the rich kids.
5. To run down – закінчитися - a supply of something runs down, or if you run
it down, there gradually becomes less of it;
The ice cream had melted and was running down my hand.
6. To go up – зростати - to move higher, rise, or increase;
Prices go up because of greed and fear caused by ignorance.
7. To look for – шукати – to search;
In financial reporting, reading numbers is looking for the plot, the story of where the
cash is flowing.
8. To fill out – заповнити - to write or type information in spaces that
are provided for it;
I assume most of us have filled out a credit application to buy a house or a car.
9. To put aside – відкладати – to save;
He is putting aside his money at the moment to buy a new car.
10.To make up – компенсувати – offset;
My dad was away on business on my birthday but he made up for it by bringing my
back some beautiful presents.
Idioms
1. The money is the root of all evil – гроші – корінь усіх бід - money is to
blame for the problems and wrongdoings in this world;
The love of money is not the root of all evil.
2. Money doesn’t grow on trees – гроші не ростуть на деревах, потрібно
докладати зусилля, щоб їх заробити - it requires effort to earn money and
it is limited so you must be careful how you spend it;
"Mum, I'd like a new bike." "I'll have to think about it - money
doesn't  grow  on  trees, you know!
3. Save money for a rainy day – відкласти гроші на чорний день – to  save
money for a time when it might be needed unexpectedly;
4. Pay yourself first – поставити себе на перше місце - automatically
routing a specified savings contribution from each paycheck at the time it is
received;
One important difference between my poor dad and rich dad was this: My poor dad
said, “Save money for a rainy day.” My rich dad said, “Pay yourself first so you’ll
never have a rainy day.
5. Money is neutral – гроші нейтральні, невпливові - an idea that any
change in the money supply makes no difference to real economic variables;
My rich dad said, “Money is neutral. It’s what you do with it that’s evil or good.”
6. Blue-chip stocks – голубі фішки (в покер), акції, що дають високі
дивіденти -  the name came about from the game of poker in which the blue
chips have the highest value;
The reason that old strategy doesn’t work anymore is because blue-chip stocks are
not blue chips anymore.
7. Money works for me – заробляти гроші, не прикладаючи важких
зусиль, бо це було зроблено раніше - taking control of your finances, then
using that control to continuously improve your financial stability and security;
I don’t work for money!” were words he would repeat over and over. “Money works
for me!”
8. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood – йти в різних напрямках - that the
roads went in two separate directions;
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both…
9. To get into more debt – залізти в борги - to come to be in a position of
owing money to someone or something (such as a bank or other lending
 institution);

Most people, given more money, only get into more debt.

10.To dangle a carrot just in front of – заманити на свою сторону,

запропонувавши щось взамін - try to persuade them to do something by
offering them a reward;
It’s just like the picture of a donkey dragging a cart with its owner dangling a carrot
just in front of its nose.
11. A bean counter– той, хто економить кожну копійку, боїться
переплатити - derogatory term used to describe someone who obsesses over
trivial and insignificant expenditures in an attempt to save money;
But all too often business schools train employees to become sophisticated bean-
counters. Heaven forbid a bean- counter takes over a business.
