Frequently Asked Questions

Ingersoll Rand Pressure Lubricated Recip Compressors

11/30/2020

1. What’s different between splash-lubricated recip vs. pressure-lubricated recip?

Our Ingersoll Rand Type 30 compressors are splash lubricated. In this design, each connecting rod in the pump
is designed with an oil dipper, which dips into the oil in the crankcase and splashes it to movings surfaces while
the pump operates. The new Ingersoll Rand pressure lubricated pumps do not have this connecting rod feature:
instead, oil is drawn through the connecting rod via pressure created by centrifugal force, and distributed
directly to mating surfaces. For more information, see the sales technical presentation.

2. What are the maintenance requirements?

Maintenance intervals & requirements for the new pressure lubricated recip packages are similar to what you’re
used to on the Type 30. Furthermore, consumable items (Air Filter Elements and All Season Select synthetic oil)
are the same on the new pressure lubricated compressors as what you use today on Type 30. Refer to the
Operators Manual for detailed information.

3. Are pressure lube recip compressors loud?

Ingersoll Rand’s new pressure lubricated compressors run slower than its Type 30 compressors, resulting in a
quieter operation. These are still unenclosed reciprocating compressor packages though, so the noise level will
still be higher than rotary screw technology. For more detail, see the sales technical presentation.

4. Where is the manufacturing location?

Both the compressor package as well as the pump itself are assembled in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Components
(motors, castings, etc) are sourced globally.

5. How are Ingersoll Rand branded pressure lube recip compressors different than DV Systems?

Ingersoll Rand’s new pressure lubricated compressors are nearly identical to the DV-Systems branded “HDI”
Heavy-Duty-Industrial packages. The only difference in product design is that the IR branded product uses
different consumables (Air filters and Oil). All other components are the same, except for the different paint /
branding scheme.

6. How are Ingersoll Rand branded pressure lube recip compressors different than the competition?

Ingersoll Rand’s new pressure lubricated compressors offer competitive pricing, as well as simplified
maintenance: by eliminating the need for a positive displacement oil pump & oil filter, maintenance
requirements and total cost of ownership are reduced without impacting reliability. For more detail, see the
sales technical presentation.

7. What options are available to sell?

9. How do we order?

Refer to the price pages: End-Item #s for compressor packages, as well as for Start-Up Kits and Extended-

“Ship-To” location on your order.

10. How do we select options?

Compressor packages are available as end item CCN’s with specific voltages, tank sizes, and horsepower. No
further ‘custom’ configurations are available at this time. If you have a sizeable opportunity that is outside of
this offering, please contact the NA Product Support team to determine if we can meet your requirements.

11. Can these units be installed outdoors or in harsh environments?

No, not recommended for outdoors or harsh environments. Available packages are rated for Nema 1, ODP only.

12. What is QPS? How do I see the QPS certification for CSA/UL?

QPS is a third party service provider to enable us to certify our products to CSA/UL standards. The CSA
applicable standard is listed on the Certificate of Compliance (CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 68-09: Motor Operated
Appliance). This provides our customers with the confidence that we are using CSA and UL certified components
and that our systems meet regulatory requirements.

The site listed below allows customers to search and verify our certification based on our file number LR1494
shown with the certification mark.
