Ethnicity in Hillingdon
According to the Greater London Authority in 2018, in Hillingdon 41.7% of the population
are White British, 8.3% are White Other and 50% are from Black & Minority Ethnic
groups. The following graphs show the current ethnic group percentages in Hillingdon
and the projected percentages in 2023 (all ages):

Population estimates for Hillingdon suggest that BAME groups are increasing as a
proportion of the population, with the corresponding reduction in the White ethnic
groups.

Changes in ethnicity in Hillingdon

The following graphs show the projected changes in ethnicity between 2018 and 2023 in
the borough. The biggest changes between those years can be seen in the White
(decreasing) and Asian (increasing) ethnic groups:

The lines around the outside of the population pyramid show the distribution of the
population if the population graphed followed the age and sex distribution of the
Hillingdon population.

The population of Hillingdon has a different age structure when compared with London.
In general, Hillingdon has a higher proportion of 5-19 and 50+ year olds, but a smaller
proportion of 25-39 year olds. In London 55% of the population are from Black and
minority ethnic (BME) communities; in Hillingdon 48% of the population are from BME
communities.

The population of Hillingdon has a different age structure when compared with England.
In general, Hillingdon has a higher proportion of 0-39 year olds, but a smaller proportion
of 45+ year olds.
The proportion of the population in Hillingdon from BME communities (48%) is much
larger than the proportion found in England (20% BME).

The proportion of ward populations from different ethnic groups varies throughout the
Borough. The chart on the following page shows the proportions of ethnic groups in
Hillingdon’s wards.
