LIFE
Interested in the
Performed hajj at age Wahabism
of 18. Got his religious Movement, started by
education while staying Muhammad bin Abdul
in Arabia (1799-1818). Wahab (whom he was
greatly influenced from).

Background
• 'Faraizi' is deduced from 'farz',
standing for mandatory/compulsory
duties ordained by Allah. Slave trade in Bengal before the movement.

depressed section of Muslim society,
i.e. artisans, tenants, farmers etc.

Legacy
One of the districts in Bangladesh issued The 450 m (1,480
the Dhaka Division a postage stamp ft) Haji Shariatullah
was named Shariatpur commemorating Bridge over the
