REFLECTION

What I’ve learned that It is not that easy being a public health nurses care for entire populations.
They are capable of educating people on health problems, enhancing neighborhood health and safety
and increasing access to treatment. There are many things that I could apply as a nurse such as:
providing treatment to patients, planning educational assemblies, hand -out fliers,
conducting health screenings, dispense medications and administering immunizations. The challenges of
being a public health nurse are the health problems faced by women and children, particularly mental
health, reproductive and sexual health, maternal and childhood obesity, infectious diseases like HIV and
AIDS, nutrition or obesity issues, and violence and abuse. Healthcare is extremely important, but there
are currently many issues that create problems for nurses. They may also experience insufficient levels
of staffing, excessive overtime, on-call assignments, abuse at work, restricted opportunities for career
growth, professional isolation, concern for personal safety and limited management support.

In addressing these challenges, I could help them by listening without making judgments and
focusing on their needs at that time, or by asking them if they need help. Also, by providing them with a
support system and empowering them. Let them share as much or as little as they want, keep questions
open and help them find health advice and provide feedback about how to do this. We could try and
talk about their wellbeing with knowing your limits. We need to teach them in preventing the infectious
diseases. To avoid it from spreading, we must teach and demonstrate to them the importance of
washing hands with soap and water, disinfecting places in your house, being smart about food
preparation and remaining at home if you have signs and symptoms of infection and getting vaccinated.
Always focus and prioritize things needed.
