where to buildupdate packages with custom versions?
Can customers do package builds from the deployment server ? What about update package with custom
versions?
At one time they were told that they couldn't, because custom versions wouldn't be picked up. Is that
correct?
Answer: Yes, you can use your deployment server to build packages. We usually recommend that you do
so logged inthe DEP Environment.
Custom versions are built normally when you build a full package. If you are only building an update
package withcustom versions, then we do recommend that you do so from a client workstation. However,
you could Assemble theupdate package with custom versions from the workstation, and then submit the
build from the deployment server.
The reason that you have to at least assemble the update package with custom versions from a
workstation is due to thefact that you are looking at System DataSource when you select the versions to
include in the package, If you are doingthis from the deployment server, you will be looking at JDEPLAN
Local DataSource because you are signed on to theDeployment environment. The versions list in the
Local DataSource is NOT updated with the custom versions. Theclient workstation is looking at System
DataSource not Local DS. So, you can select the custom version and assemblethe package. Then, you can
build the update package with the created versions on the deployment server.
When you build a full package from the deployment server, you do not have to select specific versions -
all versions arebuilt - so this is not an issue.
