2. PRESENTACIÓN
The use of English in any professional context is a key factor in professional
development. Therefore students of different areas need to approach the use of an L2
from their professional practices and in simulated contexts as well. This is an
opportunity for students to use their knowledge of the L2 in combination with their
knowledge of their professional area.

What is an ECG (Electrocardiogram)?


It is a device that allows the professional to know the tracing of the heart and the
electrical activity of it. Thought this device the professional can recognize abnormalities
in the heart rhythm.

What are 3 basic steps in an ECG?


First, the patient should lie down and be calm and relax. Second, it is important to
calibrate the ECG to adjust the instrument and have a better reading. Finally, attached
the limb leads in the right place it should be located (left arm, right arm, left leg, and right
leg).

What information can an ECG provide to understand a patient’s symptoms?


The ECG can provide information related to arrhythmias, extra or skipped heartbeats.
In the procedure you can also detect heart blocks, low plasma potassium levels, heart
conditions such as left ventricular hypertrophy and some other heart abnormalities.
