Introduction
The number of disabled people in Ecuador due to the partial or total loss of their limbs is considerable

Due to the lack of economic and technical / professional resources within the area of development and construction of
prostheses in the country, there are no specialized centers that design and manufacture prostheses that allow reaching
low-income people in remote areas of large cities.
This project aims to make a prosthesis tailored to the patient taking into account the morphometric
measurements of Ecuadorian people, due to the anatomical and functional complexity that the prosthetic device
has to replace.
Objectives

 General objective

 Develop, design and build a prototype robotic hand prosthesis that can perform prehensile grips when it
receives an order from a command system.
• Specific objectives

 Investigate different types of materials (chitosan), actuators, transmission mechanisms and sensors for the
development of the prosthesis.

 Carry out the mechanical design of the robotic prosthesis in a CAD computer-aided design software (Solid Edge or
SolidWorks), taking into account the average anthropometric measurements of a human hand of Ecuadorian
people, functionality, costs, maintenance, modularity, resistance, flexibility.

 Carry out tests through a pilot study to validate the mechanics, software and hardware of the prototype design.

 Mechanically construct a first prototype of a hand prosthesis.

Method

Hand design

Finger design using Solid Edge® or SolidWorks computer-aided

design software

Development of a prototype of the robotic hand.

Robotic Hand Hardware / Software Interface

Hand test or pilot study.
