With its popularity unmatched in the Manila hiphop scene, the 

FlipTop
Battle League, led by emcee Anygma, surprisingly still has to contend
with a lot of misconceptions about what it is and what it stands for four
years since it first emerged into mainstream consciousness.
Founded by 26-year-old Alaric Riam Yuson (better known as Anygma)
along with two others, FlipTop - to the perennial frustation of the league -
has become a widely-used (erroneous) term for a rap battle. Perhaps it's an
indication of its extensive reach - that even among the most avid of
fans, FlipTop now stands for anything and everything hiphop locally.
Since its first battle night in 2010, the FlipTop Battle League has had to
deal with its own set of issues. One that hounds the three-man staffed
league – with more than a million YouTube channel subscribers and just
over 900,000 Facebook page likes – is the notion that results are rigged.
Having faced accusations of rigging for more than four years
now, Anygma points out that while there may have been "questionable
decisions" made by judges in determining battle winners, it's to be
expected in a field that "involves subjectivity and/or art". He explains,
