Application of Self-Assessment and Course Insights to Leadership Challenge

Leadership self-assessment refers to the string of statements and evaluative questions that

guide your leadership style and help you point out your strengths and chances for growth.

Initiating phase and leadership challenge.

In this phase, all the necessary procedures and steps must be taken before the approval

and commencement of planning for a given project. A high-level definition of the project is

done. The definition is, however, is tied to the business problem that is supposed to be solved.

That helps to maintain relevance. That helps to show the need for the execution of the project.

The project's goals are then outlined; this helps develop and showcase the members’ interest to

participate in the given project. ( Kerzner, 2019)

Communication is very important at this stage as it contributes to the overall success of

the project. Good communication helps to reduce conflict and confusion among the team

members as they gather information necessary for the project. It also helps to build trust among

members thus ensuring proper coordination throughout the project.

Planning phase and leadership challenge

That is the phase where the game plan for the project is built; the project managers also

decide the scope of the project, its schedule, limitations, risk assessment, and the distribution of

labor. Enough time is allocated to evaluate the project's design, and the project should be

evaluated in all aspects. The necessary guidelines required for assembling all the necessary

details are given to make this successful. ( Kerzner, 2019)

It is at this stage the plan for the project is usually developed. The plan is essential since

it contains details of the procedure to be followed during the project. For example, the program

and clear communication with the associates. All the needed requirements are collected. That is

important as it helps to explain the expectations.

Furthermore, the scope of the project is defined during the development of the plan. That

helps to provide members with relevant statistical data. The allocation of tasks is then done by

dividing the project's larger chunks into smaller, more manageable chunks. That enables the

associates to note the ongoing process and the managers to make possible adjustments whenever

necessary. (Benedicenti et al., 2017)

The program is then developed, and the progress is set in place with detailed work

objectives, and this sets the progress of the work. The relevance is that this is the stage where the

cost of the project is estimated. There should be proper coordination between each estimate as

this is critical for completing each phase of the given project.

Good communication is also critical at this stage since proper coordination among the

members will ensure planning is done effectively and efficiently. To ensure proper program

development and proper definition of the project good communication is essential.

Execution phase and leadership challenge

That is the stage that correlates with project management. This stage focuses on setting

all participating teams to ensure the work is done effectively and competitively. This stage

ensures the project stays in line with the scope and the set objectives. Work schedules, risk

factors, and concerns are handled at this stage. The daily quality assurance checks enable the

manager to make necessary adjustments. This quality assurance has to be done daily. The

information collected from these quality checks is shared with the associates to ensure the project

aligns with the budget. (Benedicenti et al., 2017)

It is always necessary to make the needed adjustments at this stage. Such adjustments

ensure that the project is goal-oriented. They also ensure a swift running of the project. It helps

to make sure the team members adopt the best methods in the project. It also helps to remove the

errors that might have occurred during the project. The team managers should always monitor

every stage of the project to ensure this is achieved.

Closing phase and leadership challenge

The focus here is on the activities that follow after the project comes to an end or close.

The project is usually closed when the teams have delivered the finished project to customers

and have communicated their associates’ completion. The team leaders have to ensure that all the

pieces have been done. To ensure satisfaction on the customer's part, the manager meets the team

members and closes the project.

It is important that goals are achieved before the project is closed. Goal achievement

ensures satisfaction to both the team members and the clients. Some of the benefits of goal

achievement include inspiration to the team members and happiness to both the customer and the

team members. Such goals motivate the team members and also serve as a basis for performance

management and evaluation of change.

The members who contribute to the success of the project need to be recognized and

appreciated. In-house leadership is also a critical skill as it provides excellent development

opportunities. Project managers and team leaders should also be motivating and motivating and

inspiring. They should keep their team members zealous in working and significant on the

project's missions and visions. That enables the team members to deliver their best in the project,

contributing to the project's overall success. ( Steyn, 2018)
