Trend/Product: Money Cake


- A money cake is a layer cake with rolled plastic-wrapped paper money on the
inside. The cake is assembled normally, and frosted completely, and when you pull the
Happy Birthday cake topper, a rolled plastic-wrapped paper money will come out.

How did it start?
Donnalicious Bakeshop started way back 2015 to sell affordable cakes & cupcakes
for any occasion like birthday, debut, wedding, baptismal/christening, anniversary, and
etc. At first, she began making creative cakes and cupcakes as a hobby until she realized
she could turn her hobby into a business, which she did with her bakeshop, Donnalicious
Bakeshop.
Donna Resuello, who is the owner of Donnalicious Bakeshop said that cakes are
what distinguishes a special occasion. It denotes that the day is significant enough to be
commemorated appropriately. Without a cake, any gathering, especially a birthday party,
would be incomplete. A person's birthday is regarded as the most significant day of the
year in his or her life.
In 2017, she created a youtube channel (Donnalicious Bakeshop Manila) where
she teaches tutorials on how to make various types of DIY cakes and cupcakes in your
home. How to make 2 ingredient glossy buttercream, how to make glossy ganache, how
to make fondant cake, how to make money cake, and many other videos can be found
on her YouTube channel.
She received two prizes in 2019 at her bakeshop, the 2019 Best Choice Awards
and the 2019 National Customers' Choice Awards; we will not be surprised why she was
recognized, because of her ability to create unique cakes and cupcakes for any occasion.
As a result, she is even more motivated to create unique cakes, such as the money cake.
Because of her new idea of how to elevate or how to make more unique of her
cake to other competitors, it quickly became a trend, and her business became even more
successful. There are a lot of pre-orders so that they don’t run out of slots to produce
personalized money cakes. Just like the previous Father’s Day, they announced on their
facebook page that they are fully booked for making personalized money cakes.

How does it operate?


Booking:
To order, kindly message their facebook page 1 to 2 weeks in advance to reserve
a slot. You can message their facebook page around 9am – 5pm and every Tuesday –
Sunday (except Monday). Indicate your name, order date and sample design. Order only
if you are willing to wait. They are working on a limited manpower. Once orders are
confirmed and finalized, they will send you the invoice and payment details. Settle your
payment within 24 hours to secure your slot. Reservation will only be booked once
payment is confirmed. And don’t message their Instagram account because they don’t
want to overcomplicate the orders that they will receive.
Shipping Date and mode of pick up:
Every Tuesday – Sunday (except Monday), your order is ready to pick up on their
location (Sta Ana, Manila). If you don’t want to pick up your order, you can book your own
courier to pick up your order.

Who is the target market of this trend/product


Donnalicious Bakeshop caters to a wide range of customers in the Metro Manila
area. It is open to everybody from toddlers to seniors, to any gender, and to lower middle
to high income earners. It also caters to people who are attracted to creative or sweet
food. In addition, regular or occasional customers are also welcome. Small to absolute
loyalty is also being observed. Also, the readiness range is from interested to desirous
whichever works out for the company.

What are the factors affecting its growth?


Health Factors:
Regardless of Donnalicious Bakeshop's success throughout the epidemic, it still
has legitimate concerns about the pandemic's impact on their ability to expand the
business. The health problem is still affecting its growth, and she is only accommodating
partial customers in her shop to ensure the safety of her consumers. To guarantee the
safety of its customers, the bakeshop will follow health protocol.
Workforce:
They are working on a limited manpower; a lack of adequate manpower prevents
businesses from completing tasks. That is why you need to have a long patience to wait
for your orders to confirmed.

What are the challenges it is facing currently?


Every day, due to the excessive demand of their money cake, they always run out
of slots. Many people also want to order their product but not everyone is entertained. As
a result, they will cancel their order and find another shop that likewise produces money
cakes. And those who will pick up their orders in the shop, as well as the couriers, are
waiting because social distancing is no longer possible implemented. It is important to
practice social distancing specially while waiting for your order because it will prevent the
spread of virus.
Trend/Product: Korean Cream Cheese Garlic Bread
- Korean Cream Cheese Garlic Bread is a popular street food in South Korea. Soft
buns are sliced open and filled with cream cheese before being dipped in a melted butter-
garlic mixture with basil, parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Our local bakers have been
experimenting with their own versions. The inside is stuffed with a sweet-salty cream
cheese and sugar mixture, with whipped or heavy cream added in some cases. Fresh
garlic, melted butter, parmesan cheese, eggs, condensed (or ordinary) milk, and fresh
herbs were lathered both inside and outside the bun. The crunchy bread turns golden
brown in the oven and has a creamy, sweet-savory-garlicky-herby flavor profile.

Garlic Bread
How did it start?
Marikina Garlic Buns started in the first week of September 2020. They only did it
three times a week at start. And they have been shocked by the number of individuals
who like their product, so they've tried to increase production since then. Because of the
high demand around Christmas in December 2020, they have chosen to serve five days
a week.
What makes Marikina Garlic Buns unique, according to Noel Ramirez, is that they
use exactly the proper amount of sweetness in the filling to balance off the flavor. And
their version was created with Filipino palates in mind. It looked, smelt, and tasted
fantastic. It was a flaky and fluffy bun with a tasty combination of cheese, butter, and garlic
inside. It was also given a nice shiny finish
It arrived in the midst of the pandemic. People had few options and were looking
for a food service that could deliver. In Marikina, they were intended to launch a new
burger product. When they came across a video of a Korean cream cheese garlic bun,
everything was already in place. Since the development of their buns, they have
attempted to imitate the Korean recipe, which is far too sweet for our palate. We decided
that we needed to adjust it to fit the Filipino profile, so we did so. After a few days, it
became a popular trend that customers still enjoy today.
The buns, according to Noel Ramirez, are a bright addition to the market's new
offerings. People are seeking for something fresh to spice up their day during the
pandemic, so now is a good moment. Despite the chaos, they were able to create
something that people are excited about. They hope this isn't simply a hype and that it
will last, even if the Korean cream cheese garlic craze is over. They want it to be a source
of pride in the city where it was born.

How does it operate?


Booking:
To place an order, send a message to their Facebook page or Instagram account.
You can contact them via Facebook or Instagram between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.,
and their weekly baking days are every Wednesday and Sunday (except Monday,
Tuesday). You'll also need to fill out an order form (information, order, and payment
method) and wait for confirmation. Unsettled payment via Gcash/BPI and Paymaya will
be notified 2 days prior to delivery date. Payments not made will be cancelled.
Shipping Date and mode of pick up:
Their baked goods are baked fresh and delivered the same day. Every Wednesday
to Sunday (excluding Monday and Tuesday) between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Their personal
delivery courier will arrive at your place to ensure that your product is in good and safe
condition. They accept walk-in customers as well.
Who is the target market of this trend/product
Marikina Garlic Buns has recently expanded its service area to include Marikina,
Lower Antipolo, Cainta, Pasig, Project 2, 3 & 4, Cubao, and Murphy. It welcomes
everyone from teenagers to retirees. It also caters to people of all genders. It's also
ideal for fans of bread and Korean food.

What are the factors affecting its growth?


Competition from other business:
To stand out, more competitors have added a twist to their Korean cream cheese
garlic bread. Only two varieties of Korean cream cheese garlic bread are available at
Marikina Garlic Buns, but other competitors currently provide three to five varieties of
Korean cream cheese garlic bread. Learning to keep one step ahead of your
competitors will aid in the development of the wings that will allow you to fly with ease.
As the food industry gets more competitive, it becomes increasingly necessary for
business owners to keep up with current food trends. These new trends assist their firm
in retaining existing clients as well as attracting new ones. Big company work hard to
make sure they appeal to these customers.

What are the challenges it is facing currently?


Because numerous new food trends are rapidly appearing today, Korean Cream
Cheese Garlic Bread is slowly falling behind. Marikina Garlic Buns are trying to keep up
with their business so that it would not go out of business. The rainy season is also one
of Marikina Garlic Buns' current challenges. Because their own delivery courier is
motorized, it can be difficult for the rider to go due to slippery roads and the reason that
customers' orders are sometimes delayed.
