Online class experience!

H.E Mr. Ambassador, other dignitaries and my fellow colleagues, Good afternoon.

My name is Heena Pamnani and my Chinese name is 潘海娜。I am currently studying

Chinese at Tongji university and hope to study medicine later.
I am very thankful to the Chinese government for providing me with this opportunity
to partake in this journey to becoming a medical doctor.

When i first started, i used to take classes at 12am because of the time difference
and i am sure other people had it worse
I had to get accustomed a whole new schedule: staying awake all night and sleeping
in the morning. (这很难) After a few complaints and a few missed classes from other
students and i, a sort of solution was made, the time got readjusted and is much
better now.
A major issue I face is the internet and electricity oh boy...Sierra Leone internet
is not really suitable definitely for online class and as for the electricity, it’s
very unpredictable especially when you use devices that rely on electricity to work
for instance , there was a period of time when we had really heavy rain and the
electricity was all over the place, i was taking 医学汉语 class and the electricity
went out and my computer also died because it relies on the electricity, thankfully
my phone was charged enough for me to complete the class.

Regardless of the challenges, the past few months of online class has been really
great, my Chinese reading, writing and speaking skills have immensely improved
since I started my course as my teachers and encourages us to converse and
participate during class and a series of homework and tests also helps to keep on
track.
I learned more about the culture of the People’s republic of China from their
amazing history to their delicious food and their beautiful landmarks.
I have also got to learn about other nationalities and their cultures due to the
diverseness of my class filled with students from different parts of the world.
My Laoshis have been patient and understanding throughout my course and keep
encouraging us to study hard and for that I’m really grateful.

Online class has had both advantages and disadvantages

1. Most people aren’t accustomed to this type of learning especially after
being in a classroom all their lives, it does take time to get used to ... but we
have no choice (没有办法）
2. Thanks to class recordings, I can always go back and go through what I
missed or didn’t understand which has been very helpful.
