TOPIC TITLE: OUR AMANAH AS KHALIFAH IN RELATION TO

ORPHANS

NAME: AMIRAH AFIQAH BINTI MOHD YUSRI

MATRIC NUMBER: 2118662

LECTURER’S NAME: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR MAULANA AKBAR

Introducti on 1
The moral duty of correctly completing one's commitments is known as Amanah. It's
an essential part of a Muslim's life. Al-Amanah (trust) and al-mas'uliyyah (responsibilities)
allude to the ethical qualities of human character that must be applied in daily life, especially
by Muslims. Both of these noble attributes will assist someone in avoiding something that
could lead to him being labeled as a nasty person.  Islam demands its ummah be
characterized by the nature of Amanah that is mentioned in the Quranic verses and also the
hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (Nurzatil, 2017).
As a Khalifah assigned by Allah, care about the orphans’ well-being is one of
Amanah that we have to fulfill. Allah also relates Amanah with Iman (faith), which the Iman
will not be perfect for anyone without Amanah. This is because Amanah was also derived
from the word Iman. Hence, whoever preserves the Amanah granted by Allah, Allah will
then preserve his Iman (faith). Allah S.W.T had said:

“And if Allah had so willed, He would have made you a people, but He misleads whom He
wills, and guides whom He wills, and verily ye shall be questioned of what ye used to do.”
(Al-Nahl, 16: 93)

In connection with that, this summer camp is one of the efforts made to fulfill this
Amanah given by Allah (SWT).
2
Concept and objecti ve of the summer camp
The main concept of this summer camp is to create special programs for children who
have lost a parent. This camp is offered to children ages 13-17 who have lost a loved one.
This camp provides a unique opportunity for youth to increase levels of hope, enhance self-
esteem, and especially learn that they are not alone. Throughout the program, various
interesting activities will be carried out to achieve the objectives of the program. The first
objective of this camp is to meet the demands of Islam to do kind towards orphanages. As we
know, Islam advises us to do good to orphans and even the Prophet himself is an orphan.
Other than that, in this era of globalization, the view of some groups towards orphans
is negative. They assume that orphans do not have a good standard of education and cannot
be a successful person. Therefore, one of the objectives of this summer camp is to expose
them to the importance of knowledge in life. In Islam too, Allah mentions many times in the
Quran, how important it is to acquire knowledge to be a great Khalifah. Next is to let them
have fun and make lots of friends. As we all know, in Islam, the importance of hablum
minnas (relationship between human and human) is given emphasis. That being said, this
isn’t always practiced in religion, and varies from one religion to the next - we are all far
from perfect. This is why the virtues of patience, tolerance, and understanding are indeed,
very high. This also inspires calmness and humility in people.

Events organized throughout the summer camp
In order to achieve the maximum benefits and objectives targeted, several activities
have been planned. This camp team meticulously plans each activity to ensure that the
participants have a good time while also receiving various benefits. The camp started with
taaruf session among participants and participants with facilitators. This taaruf session is very
important for the first step to create a comfortable atmosphere throughout the camp. With this
session as well, participants can add many new friends and build friendships with others. as
mentioned earlier, creating relationships among Muslims is highly demanded in Islam and
brings lots of benefits to those who carry out this injunction. One of the benefits of
connecting silaturrahim are that Allah will connect the relationship with the person who
connects silaturrahim in the words of the Prophet (‫;)ﷺ‬
Allah said, "I am the Most Merciful and he is the Rahim, the name is taken from the part of
My name, whoever connects it, then I give My mercy to him, and whoever decides it, then I
decide My mercy from him." (Narrated by Abu Dawud).

The participants were then given a talk by a well-known motivational speaker. The
discussion is on the need of acquiring knowledge at an early age and the importance of
having a decent education for the future of religion and the country. Islam emphasizes how
important it is for its believers to have knowledge. Our beautiful religion requires its
believers to seek knowledge as much as possible whether the knowledge is related to life in
the world, such as mathematics, astronomy, science, and philosophy as well as the knowledge
of the hereafter such as creed (‫)عقيدة‬, worship (‫ادة‬qq‫)عب‬, and fiqh (‫)فقه‬. For, the Prophet
Muhammad had repeatedly stressed the importance of knowledge and learning: “Acquire
knowledge, it enables its possessor to distinguish right from wrong; it lights the way to
heaven. It is our friend in the desert, our company in solitude and companion when
friendless. It guides us to happiness, it sustains us in misery, it is an ornament amongst
friends and an armor against enemies.” So, hopefully, by giving this talk, participants will
gain a better grasp of the importance of knowledge and will foster the desire to acquire
information to become respected and knowledgeable people in the future.
4
The impact that can be had through this camp
Various positive impacts can be achieved as a result of this camp. Volunteers who
participate in this camp will be able to cultivate a sense of love for orphans. Meanwhile, the
spirit of volunteering and the sense of responsibility that must exist to do good to other
Muslims, particularly orphans, can be increased. They will also reap significant benefits as a
result of their good deeds for orphans. Caring for orphans is a significant part of Islam.
Orphans are mentioned 22 times in the Qur’an; their mistreatment is a serious sin while
nurturing and sponsoring them is an immensely valuable good deed. Sponsoring orphans is a
cause particularly dear to the Prophet Muhammad’s (‫ )ﷺ‬heart. He (
‫ )ﷺ‬was also an orphan - his father passed away before he was even born, and his
mother passed away when he was a young child. The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, ‘The one

who cares for an orphan and me will be together in Paradise like this, and He (
‫ )ﷺ‬held his two fingers together to illustrate. [narrated by bukhari]
For participants who participate in this camp, they will gain a variety of new
knowledge that is useful for life in this world, as well as in the hereafter. In the meantime,
they can also get to know many new friends and can establish brotherhood among Muslims.
getting friends who are also orphans can give them the comfort that they are not alone. The
absence of parents will cause them to feel lonely even more if they have no other siblings,
they will feel like there is no place to rely on hope and love. This will cause them to feel less
affectionate. So, through this program, they will find many more who have the same fate as
them, and with that, of course, they will feel better and happier.
This fulfills the 3 concepts of Amanah, namely make yourself good, which is the
volunteer can improve themselves in a better direction and be pleased with Allah. The second
is to make others good, that is, by organized events that can benefit the participants who join
this camp and can fill the participant's time with things that can provide good benefits. Lastly
is to make the world good, that is, to open the eyes of the world, the Amanah that we have as
Khalifahs towards orphans
What Allah say about helping the orphanage 5
Orphans are extremely important in Islam. Allah has endowed children with
numerous rights, and it is everyone's responsibility to care for and love them. Similarly, Allah
has imposed a stricter obligation on people who care for or raise orphaned children. Taking
care of orphans includes a great deal of responsibility. There are very particular constraints
when it comes to Islam and orphan treatment. Our beloved Prophet Mohammad (
‫ )ﷺ‬was an orphan child himself, and our beloved Prophet Mohammad (
‫ )ﷺ‬has also instructed us to take good care of those who do not have parents or
who do not have fathers. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (‫ )ﷺ‬said: “I will be like
this in Jannah with the person who takes care of an orphan.” The Holy Prophet Muhammad (
‫ )ﷺ‬raised his forefinger and middle finger by way of illustration [Sahih al-
Bukhari, Kitab al-Adab].
As Islam has said clearly and sternly that orphans must be cared for, Islam is also
particularly concerned with orphans' property. Allah mentions orphans' property and wealth,
which they received from their deceased fathers, in several verses of the Holy Quran. Allah
says in Surah Al-Nisa, verse 10:
ۡ َ‫اِ َّن الَّ ِذ ۡينَ يَ ۡا ُكلُ ۡونَ اَمۡ َوا َل ۡاليَ ٰتمٰ ى ظُ ۡل ًما اِنَّ َما يَ ۡا ُكلُ ۡونَ فِ ۡى بُطُ ۡونِ ِهمۡ نَا ًرا‌ ؕ َو َسي‬
‫ـصلَ ۡونَ َس ِع ۡيرًا‬
Indeed, those who devour the property of orphans unjustly are only consuming into their
bellies fire. And they will be burned in a Hellfire” [4:10].
Anyone who defrauds an orphan of his property shall be shown on the Day of Judgment with
flames emerging from his mouth, nose, and ears, according to Tafsir al-Kabir. People will
remember him as the man who, during his lifetime, seized the orphans' property. "They shall
enter scorching flames," the final statement, indicating that anyone who deprives an orphan
of his or her lawful property will be condemned to Hell-fire, even if he has committed no
other sin.

Sirah related to orphanage 6
Over the centuries, various events have taken place in relation to orphans that show
the status of orphans on the Islamic side. There is a sweet story about Rasulullah (
‫ )ﷺ‬and an orphan boy that happened during the Eid celebration. At that time,
Prophet Muhammad (‫ )ﷺ‬was on his way home after leading the early morning
Eid prayers. Then, he suddenly became aware of a little boy (Zuhair Bin Saghir) sitting by
himself on the side of the path. The little boy was crying and looked very sad. The Prophet (
‫ )ﷺ‬bent down and patted him on the shoulders and asked 'why are you crying?'
'Please leave me alone' sobbed the little boy. The boy didn't even see who was talking to him.
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬ran his fingers through the boy's hair and very gently and
kindly asked him again why he was crying. This time the boy said, 'My father was martyred
fighting, and now my mother has married again and my stepfather does not want me to live at
home anymore. Today is Eid and everyone is happy. All the children have new clothes and
nice things to eat, but I don't have any clothes except what I am wearing. I have no food and I
don't even have a place to live.'
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said to him, 'I know how you feel, I lost both my
mother and father when I was a little boy.' The boy was surprised to hear that it was an
orphan who was comforting him, and when he looked up to his great surprise it was the
Prophet Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬, and he immediately jumped up to his feet out of love
and respect. The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said to him 'If I were to become your new father,
Aisha R.A your new mother, and Fatima your new sister, would that make you feel better?'
'Oh yes, that would be the best thing in the world!' The boy started smiling. The Prophet took
him home and gave him new clothes and good food on this beautiful day of Eid. The boy
indeed had a wonderful Eid that day.
Conclusion
In the conclusion, as Khalifah selected by Allah, we must uphold the Amanah
entrusted to us, which is to care for the orphans' wellbeing and not neglect it to the point of
persecuting them. We must be conscious of our responsibilities and not take them lightly to
get Allah’s blessings and avoid the wrath of Allah. We also must strive to set a good example
for those around us, to open society's eyes to how important we are as Muslims, to carry out
our trust by doing good to fellow Muslims and caring for one another, and to raise awareness
about the importance of this to achieve success in this world and the next.
