MODULE 2 Creative Mask

I called my art as “Mirror”. The mirror as we all know is a reflective surface which shows a
reflection of a specific object. I combine two different art style by Dr. Jualim D. Vela. Each color in my
artwork represents something and depicts a special meaning. The colors that were shown in my hair
which compose of blue and green colors symbolizes nature which for me is very calming, peaceful,
natural and full of life. The color of my face which have yellow and orange color symbolizes the bright
sun. The sun for me means a very bright hope and a very optimistic outlook. I decided to name my art as
a Mirror because I dreamed of mirroring the calmness of the world as I encounter problems of life and
to clothe myself positively that in every difficulty there’s always something good that I will be getting out
of it.

While doing this artwork I used oil pastel and a bond paper as my material or medium. Ever
since I was in high school, I am really fond and accustomed of using it versus other coloring materials
that is why I chose it. The technique that I used is just by simply stroking the color easily since I want it
to look as calmly as possible. As for the elements in my drawing, I make sure that I was able to combine
colors basing it in their color family because I don’t want to put any additional interpretation on it aside
from again it as very calming. I carefully chose the lines and the shapes that I will be using to be
somewhat like the art style of Dr. Vela and make sure that the color combination would be as cheerful
as possible. I also make it to a point that I was able to make a proper proportion. I used a ruler to divide
the face and also, I want the colors for both sides to be the same to show unity within the art.

Before I even started my drawing, I already decided that I will be using the post-modernism art
movement as much as I can. Since I found out that this art movement conflicts against the normal
perception of what an art is, I was easily captured by it. As a person who’s not really good in art, I felt
really inspired in a way that maybe someday I can create a so-called art too in my own special way. That
is why I make it to a point that even I have a Dr. Vela’s art style as a basis, I still want it to be as
personalized as possible.

I had a really fun time doing this assignment. Even if I am not really good in drawing, I think I was
able to create a very wonderful and simple artwork. The “Mirror” art that I just created felt very me and
I want to create something very personal that shows my ideals and personality at the same time.
