1. JUSTIFICATION OF THE COURSE

Electrotechnics is the technological discipline aimed at the use of electricity. His disciplinary field
encompasses the study of electrical and electromagnetic phenomena, from the point of view of their
practical utility, the design and construction techniques of characteristic electrical devices, whether
they are complex circuits, machines or systems, and calculation and measurement techniques of
their magnitudes. Electrotechnical applications extend widely to all areas of economic activity and
daily life, thanks to specialized developments in different fields of application, which give rise to
training and professional options in various sectors of activity: energy production and distribution,
heating and cooling, lighting, obtaining mechanical energy, encoded information processing,
automation and control of processes, transmission and reproduction of images and sound,
electromedicine, and so on.
Electrotechnics plays an integrative and applied role in the Production Engineering curriculum, by
using explanatory models from, above all, the physical sciences and analytical methods, calculus,
and graphic representation methods from mathematics. This nature of applied science gives it a
relevant educational value, by integrating and putting into use knowledge from scientific disciplines
of a more abstract and speculative nature. It plays a catalytic role in the scientific and technical tone
that is its own, deepening and systematizing related learning, coming from previous educational
stages.
Its general purpose is to provide relevant learning that is loaded with possibilities for further
development. In accordance with this aim, a reduced set of electromagnetic concepts and principles
has been selected that can be worked on through simple experimental setups for measuring and
calculating quantities. In-depth knowledge of the basic elements with which any electrical circuit or
machine is built, ohmic resistance, self-induction and capacity, its behavior with electrical
phenomena and their arrangement in characteristic circuits, constitutes the core of this matter,
complemented with the techniques of calculation and direct measurement of magnitudes in electrical
circuits.
