Chapter 1

The Problem and Its background

Introduction

Student nowadays are shy to show their full potential because they are ashamed of
what should they might gotten if she/he might get wrong. According to balayesu Education
is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and
habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, and teaching.

Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may
also educate themselves. Education can take place in formal or informal settings and any
experience that has a formative effect on the way of thinks, feels, or acts may be considered
educational. The methodology of teaching is called pedagogy. Education is commonly divided
formally into such stages as preschool or kindergarten, junior high school, senior high school
and then college, university, or apprenticeship.

A right to education has been recognized by some governments and the United
Nations. In most regions, education is compulsory up to a certain age. Now a day every
Person is studying and learning some skills. But I think all educational Institutions can provide
a theoretical knowledge than practical knowledge. Only few Institutions can give a practical
knowledge. Very few persons can grow up their skills and successes their life. Those who are
lack of practical knowledge they didn't get the opportunities they lose their hopes. So, what I
am saying is please provide a Formal education occurs in a structured environment whose
explicit purpose is teaching students.

Usually, formal education takes place in a school environment with classrooms of

multiple students learning together with a trained, certified teacher of the subject. Most school
systems are designed around a set of values or ideals that govern all educational choices in
that system.

Background of the study

The researchers want to explain and give some information about how the teachers
can affect the ability of a student to achieve their full potential. Teachers have a very
significant, lifelong impact on all of their students. This impact involves not only the teaching of
particular academic skills, but as importantly, the fostering of student self-esteem. Reinforcing
self-esteem in the classroom is associated with increased motivation and learning.

According to research finding teachers beliefs translate into differential behavior

toward their students. For example, teachers who see particular students as highly motivated
and highly capable would often make eye contact, smile and lean toward them, and praise and
call on them more frequently. Student learning can be positively impacted by the
encouragement of teachers to their students. A teacher's influence, ideas, and expectation.

If teachers believe in their students, their students begin to believe in themselves.

Students take into effect the beliefs their teachers have on them and accept it as part of who
they are their abilities. When students are viewed in a negative way by their teachers such as,
being lazy, unmotivated and having no abilities, they take on those beliefs about themselves.
Many teachers may not be aware of their action towards particular students in the classroom
but their students become aware of them.

Statement of the Problem

This research aims to determine the effects of the teachers in their students in academic level
performance and achieving their full potential.
1. Do the teacher influences more, when we talk about the ability of a student to achieve their
full potential?
2. How do the teachers encourage their students to pay attention to their study in achieving
their full potential?

3. What ways that the teachers do to manage their students in achieving their full potentials in
their studies?
Hypothesis

In the way that the teachers teach, instruct, witnessed, train, counsel, confront, tutor,
guide and educate a student can affect their ability to achieve their full potential, skills and
learning process.

Scope and Delimitations

This research was only limited for the selected students of CAYBIGA HIGH SCHOOL
who wanted to know the facts about the teachers influence in students in achieving their full
potential. This research would undergo through survey and statistical data for those selected
students and teachers who were chosen to answer the questionnaire.

Significance of the study

The following individuals would be benefited from this research.

STUDENTS. The discussion would be smooth mostly in the relationship occurring between
students and their teachers and it also help to manage and accept what teachers said and
done to make their achievements become better.

TEACHERS. It helped the teachers on how to manage, teach, educate, motivate and
influence a student in an acceptable manner and in a simplest way in achieving their students’
full potential with the presence of them.
School Administrator

The students who were studying in their school grounds could know what to do in
responding, accepting and recording the finished task of the students and teachers. So, the
school administrator’s duty would be lessened in disciplining and compromising students to
achieve their full potential with using all their knowledge and skill.

Future Researcher

This research could be a reference for the future researchers that might relate their study
to this research.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURIES AND STUDIES

This chapter analyzes the related literatures and studies. It consists of several findings
and studies that were related to the researcher’s topic.
Review of related Literature

Helping students understand better in the classroom is one of the primary concerns of every
teacher. Teachers need to motivate students how to learn and achieve their full potential. According to
Phil Schlecty (1994), students who understand the lesson tend to be more engaged and show different
characteristics such as they are attracted to do work, persist in the work despite challenges and
obstacles, and take visible delight in accomplishing their work. In developing students' understanding to
learn important concepts, teacher may use a variety of teaching strategies that would work best for
her/his students.

According to Raymond Wlodkowski and Margery Ginsberg (1995), research has shown no
teaching strategy that will consistently engage all learners. The key is helping students relate lesson
content to their own backgrounds which would include students' prior knowledge in understanding new
concepts. Due recognition should be given to the fact that interest, according to Saucier (1989:167)
directly or indirectly contributes to all learning. Yet, it appears that many teachers apparently still need
to accept this fundamental principle. Teachers should mind the chief component of interest in the
classroom. It is a means of forming lasting effort in attaining the skills needed for life. Furthermore
teachers need to vary teaching styles and techniques so as not to cause boredom to the students in the
classroom. Seeking greater insight into how children learn from the way teachers discuss and handle
the lesson in the classroom and teach students the life skills they need, could be one of the greatest
achievements in the teaching process

According to Brock (1976), Cashin (1979) and Lucas (1990), it is necessary for teachers to work
from students' strengths and interests by finding out why students are in your class and what are their
expectations. Therefore it is important to take into consideration students' needs and interests so as to
focus instruction that is applicable to different groups of students with different levels..

Furthermore, researchers have begun to identify some aspects of the teaching situation that help
enhance students' motivation. Research made by Lucas (1990), Weinert and Kluwe (1987) show that
several styles could be employed by the teachers to encourage students to become self- motivated
independent learners. As identified, teachers must give frequent positive feedback that supports
students' beliefs that they can do well; ensure opportunities for students' success by assigning tasks
that are either too easy nor too difficult; help students find personal meaning and value in the material;
and help students feel that they are valued members of a learning community.

Theoretical Framework
This chapter introduces a theoretical background of the present research. Since this research
aims to address whether teachers can affect the ability of a student to achieve their full potential.
According to the whilst of the the government, higher education authorities and institutions, academics,
academic development practitioners, researchers etc. recognize that there is an increasing number and
diversity of students accessing higher education, do the stakeholders really know who these students
are before even thinking of enhancing their learning and teaching? Certain student retention theories
like those of Tinto, Spady and Bean have described the type of students entering higher education, but
have failed to describe some real attributes and life-worlds of these students. The purpose of this article
is to present a theoretical model describing the ‘circles of progression’ of a university student in some
other schools context. This model describes the progression of a student from pre-entry (school and
family background), the initial entry into university (first few weeks/orientation), entry into university
(teaching and learning environment) and until completion of studies. Although contributions that report
on and seek to theorise on a range of responses to teaching and learning challenges are needed,
contributions and theories on who these students are, and what are the factors affecting their academic
performance are also as important.

Conceptual Framework

The figure was used to outline the possible action or to present a preferred approach to the
researcher’s study. The expectations of the researchers were shown using the figure 1 below. The
researchers used a figure to explain that how the teachers affect and influence the ability of a student in
academic level performance and in achieving their full potential.

are not.The teachers affect and influence the ability of a student in academic level performance and in
