DIRECTING/ LEADING AS A MANAGEMENT FUNCTION

OVERVIEW
Leadership in organizations seriously affect the performance of employees. Directing people to
a common purpose needs
strong leadership.
Directing/leading is a key element in the process of management. After formulating the plans for
accomplishing the pre-determined
goals, the organizational structure is prepared and suitable persons are designated to
appropriate roles, and the organization
commences its operations. However, necessary actions will only initiate after a command in
chief provides direction to the higher-level
management.
Successful firms regard the leadership skill requirement as a high priority concern. Engineer
managers, in whatever management level
they happen to be, are expected to maintain effective work forces. To be able to do so, they are
required to perform leadership roles.
