Subject: Ethics and CSR

Question 1: Identify the basic orientation of the business man (Tanoto)


Answer:
● Virtue Ethics:
The business man, Tanoto has imply level 3 post conventional, autonomous, or principled
stages. As he built the multinational company, they use the 3c as the business philosophy
which is good for the community, country, and company which is important for
maintaining human rights. He also makes wise decisions and has a high level of motivation
that may inspire a lot of individuals.

● Rights Ethics:
The company appreciates the human resources (the people) that help to manage the system
in his company. In the company, they share the same values and have constant
communication. He also created quality from the people.

● Utilitarian Ethics:
In this ethics he knows about the reality in business and also thinks that it is important to
be efficient and care for the environment impact so that the stakeholders can be satisfied.
Based on his motto (time, quality, cost) it already can include the utilitarian ethics.

Question 2: What are the ethical principles that he practices in his company?
Answer:
● Caring principle: The company cares about harmony, teamwork, environment, etc.
● Society welfare principle: The company thinks not only about what the company does but
also thinking about the social and one of the business philosophies is about everything you
do must be good for the community .
● Moral/Integrity principle (commitment): Before you do, you think. After you think, you
act. After you act, you learn.
Question 3: How and what can you learn from his explanations?
Answer:
● Teamwork, 3c’s (good for community, country, and company)
● Time, Quality and Cost. Share value is important
● Complacency in individuals and organizations is a cancer, when you have complemency
in organization, your organization will die.
● Build & improve the technology. Less people, high productivity.
● Make dedication
● Do not stop learning. If you do not make a decision, you can’t act.
