1.0 Introduction
According with Bursa Malaysia Market, Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad, or AZRB, is
an Engineering & Construction group headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. The company has
grown fast since its beginning in 1982, and has proved itself as a trusted and recognized
leader in the sector. The Construction Industry Development Board ("CIDB") awarded
AZRB's subsidiary Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd ("AZSB") the SHASSIC 5 Star Achievement
Award for the Bukit Bintang City Center and Petronas University of Technology projects in
2020. In 2019, AZRB got a CIDB 4 Star Score Distinction, while AZSB got the same award
with a 5 Star award from CIDB. In 2019, AZRB got the Malaysian Investor Relations
Association's MSWG Merit Award for Best Corporate Governance Disclosure, as well as
Best Company for Investor Relations and Best Investor Relations Website in the micro hat
category. Focus Malaysia awarded AZRB the Best Under Billion Award for Best
Sustainability Reporting in 2018 .

The Engineering & Construction Division of the Group was named Builder of the
Year at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards 2017 ("MCIEA") in 2017. It
also received two more MCIEA awards for its work at Menara Kerja Raya in Kuala Lumpur,
such as the Best Project Award and the Green Construction Award. It has been awarded
"Builder of the Year" three times (in 2000, 2006, and 2017) and has achieved other
construction project competitions. Petronas University of Technology, Mass Rail Transit, and
Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Center @UIAM in Kuantan, Pahang are among the famous
works done by the E&C division. The Putrajaya MRT Line Viaduct Package V202 and the
East Klang Valley Expressway were two ongoing projects. Besides from engineering and
construction, the AZRB Group is also active in oil and gas, real estate, concessions, and
ploughing.

2.0 Planning

The Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad company have their own vision and mission.Their
vision is as follows:

 Being the trusted industry leader in delivering commitment with excellence and
value.

Besides,their company’s mission are as follows:

 Be the smart partnership with customers,employees and stakeholders


 Intitutionalise the virtues of honesty and trust
 Setting and maintaining high standards;striving for superior performance in all
undertakings and be pro-activr through continuous research and development in
meeting challenges.

In my opinion,the company have been already achieved their vision and mission because
their company are well-known company and trusted company nowadays.There are many
projects that the company handle nowadays.It is because the trust of the customers to
their company.

Next,the operational plan that Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad use is standing plan.The
company always prepare the annual business plan and budget for all business divisions and
subsidiaries and it were deliberated and approved by their respective Boards.They also have
the policy and framework of the risk management as the plan to face the challenges in their
management.

I determine this company is functional structure as the structure which task and jobs
are divided according to pre -determined management divisions. Each work movement will
be deployed by their respective parts without mixing up their respective parts. This makes it
easier for employees to perform their work movements in line with the instructions of
superiors. In this company, each division in the management of the company is appointed by
a person to handle the division to ensure the smooth running of work and fulfill each vision
and mission of the company.

4.0 Leading

Leading is the use of the influence to motivate employees to fulfil organizational goals.The
management should be able to make the employees eager to participate in achieving the goals
of an organization.If the organization is leaded by a person with great leadership skills,it will
help the organization move toward goal attainment.In leading the organization,its use two
types of leadership power that refer to the ability to accomplish a goal with the assistance of
other.There are position power and personal power.In AZRB,I just founded that they have
only the position power in their management.

For position power of Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB),they have the legitimate
power.Legitimate power comes from holding the position of power in an organization such as
being the boss or a central member of a leadership committee.In AZRB,it have the
chairman,Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Aman Bin Raja Haji Ahmad who is known as the highest
ranking in the management of AZRB.He has his own responsibility in taking the managerial
decisions,managing the group managing,the independent non-executive and the others part of
the management.Other than legitimate power,AZRB also have reward power on controlling
over tangible benefits.There is group managing director,Dato’ Sri Wan Zakariah Bin Haji
Wan Muda who are the group manager of all the groups in AZRB.For example,oil and
gas,concession,engineering and construction,property and also plantation.He will make the
decision that can give more benefits to the company based on the groups of company.

5.0 Controlling

Based on my study,I found that Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad,known as AZRB used the
three types of control which are feed forward control,concurrent control and corrective
control.

By using the feed forward control,the management will be focus on detecting undesirable
things that can spoil the work process.In Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB), every
activities that are involving operations had to cease operations due to restrictions set by the
government to prevent the covid-19 virus.It were caused the company to have difficulty in
settling staff salaries even though operations had to be stopped and caused serious losses.

Besides,in concurrent control,they focused on the transformation process that will be ensure
the fumctioning will be properly.In Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB), they took steps
to reduce basic costs in their company in the face of the covid-19 pandemic crisis.They
decided not to extend the employment contracts of some of their employees and froze general
hiring.They have reduced the number of their employees by 265 people from 1311
people.They also took steps to deal with the crisis by cutting salaries to all employees to
continue their companies despite having to suffer huge losses.

Last but not least,in corrective control,they focused on the discovering undesirable outuput
and implementing corrective action.In Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB), in going
through the challenge, they have made their plans more forward -looking to be better and
stand out in the market.They have changed the structure and size of the group with respect to
the income operating group sector.They have also reorganized the group to provide value
high to all stakeholders in their company.

6.0 Conclusion

As a conclusion,Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB) is a company with a clear vision


and mission in driving their strategy.Their company management process adapted from
standing planning with excellent leadership has been their main success in achieving the
objectives of their company.They always want to be the best in give the best services to their
client.
