Choices for 3rd Nine Weeks Due on May 20th!                                                     

For the last nine weeks, we are focusing on speculative\science fiction and examining
the theme of journeys. Again, 150 points are required for an ‘A’; 125 for a ‘B’;
110 for a ‘C’ All events over 150 points will be considered for extra credit. You may not earn extra credit if you have any
missing assignments, excessive tardies or absences. Extra credit is limited to 200 points. It is the expectation that all writing
is original work completed without assistance from the internet or other students. Plagiarism of any kind will result in a grade
of zero for the entire 150 point assignment. In addition you will receive a 3 in conduct for the term and your parents will be
notified. ATTACH THIS COVER SHEET TO ANY WORK THAT YOU TURN IN.

April 21st Participate in Chat & Chew! April’s book is Purple Heart and in May we will 40
Lunch time in discuss Summer Reading for next year. Post a picture of yourself at the event to
E102 your Ning page and update your status with one comment or line from the
or May 19th discussion. Your comment can reflect inspiration or learning.
On-Going Read a Classic. See the attached Big Read 100 title list from Penguin books. Create 50
an AR-C for 1 social issue in the book. Create a question from the AR-C you
complete.
On-Going Use Diigo to annotate an online text. Make an appoint with Ms. Spillane after 50
school if you would like a Diigo tutorial. Take a screen shot of your annotated text
and upload that screen-shot to the Bear English Ning.
On-Going Writing: Write a blog post on a topic related to education (school schedules, school 40
lunches, school policies toward cell phones,etc) of at least 500 words on your blog
on Bear English. Get 5 people to start a discussion in the comments on your post to
discuss the issue. Extra credit may be given for excellent discussions.
On-Going Morse Museum of Art  Visit the museum on Park Avenue in Winter Park. Take a 50
picture of yourself there and post it to the Ning along with a status update that
reveals your opinion of 1 of the pieces of art there. 
On-Going Theater Events: Attend a professional or amateur theater event. Check out the 50
offerings at Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, Valencia Community College,
Rollins College, UCF, Orlando Rep, Osceola Performing Arts Center, or other high
schools. Bring a ticket or a program as documentation and write a review of the
performance.
On-going Watch a Documentary. Watch a documentary from the list you got during the first 50
quarter. I recommend watching Tapped and using it if you have an environmental
question on the test!
On-Going Create: Create a piece of art advertising your favorite book or a book required for 40
summer reading. The art may be a painting on canvas, a photo-collage, mixed-media
collage or drawing. Upload a picture of your art work to Bear English and bring the
original to Ms. Spillane for display in the media center.
