 TED TALK OF EMILIE WAPNICK

Are you a multipotentialite or a specialist?

Writer and artist Emilie Wapnick describes the kind of people she calls “multipotentialites”, as
people who have a range of interests and jobs over one lifetime. They have many passions.

I for one is a multipotentialite than a specialist, I have a lot of interests—not just one interest—and
on the surface they seem disconnected.

I have different talents, hobbies and dreams about myself. Sometimes, I wanna be a HRM Officer,
sometimes I love to cook and be a Chef. Most of the times, I love to draw and become creative
with my arts. I easily learn doing things on my own.

On the other hand, I am a very adaptable and hardworking online customer assistant with skills in
foreign customer relations, such as in dealing with clients in Amazon, where I am partially working.
Those interests make my life so meaningful and I know someday I will make my parents proud for
being a multipotentialite, being able to embrace many passions.

What are the benefits if the multipotentialites and specialists work together?

According to Emilie Wapnick in her Ted Talk on 2015, while the multipotentialite brings a breadth
of knowledge to the project, the speciliast can dive in deep and implement new ideas and it is a
beautiful partnership.

“Being able to embrace many passions and following our curiousity we explore every intersections
or inner wiring to a happier and more authentic life.”

When specialists and multipotentialites come together, the multipotentialites are able to take the
specialist's knowledge, wisdom, awareness, and understanding, and apply it to multiple
fields, often even at the same time. It's a winning combination with benefits for all.

you’re drawn to even if you end up quitting? Why?
