Update

Caterpillar is pleased to announce the 2017 product update to

L Series medium wheel loaders (950L-980L)*. Annual product
updates enable Caterpillar to bring new features and product
improvements to market more quickly and with greater frequency
than the traditional machine NPI cycle. The key cornerstones of
this product update are CPM 2.0 with Advanced Productivity,
Cat ® Autolube System and new cab arrangements.

CPM 2.0 – Advanced Productivity Application Cat Connect Technologies
An optional web based tool powered by CPM 2.0, VisionLink®
Advanced Productivity includes application profiling, cycle
segmentation and transactional payload data. It requires
an Advanced Productivity subscription in VisionLink and
Product Link™ Elite PLE641 cellular telematics hardware.
• Machine data uploads directly to VisionLink, no need for
manual machine downloads with VIMS™pc.
• Cycle segmentation and detailed payload data available
in VisionLink.
• Easy list management features for onboard and off board
via VisionLink.
Note: A six month subscription is included with CPM 2.0
purchase. Availability varies by country. Consult your
dealer Product Link Administrator for specific details.

 Application Profiling
Identifies the following applications:
• Loading
• Load and carry
• Roading
• Pile cleanup
• Waiting, engine off, other

Cycle Segmentation
Provides the following segment breakdowns:
• Back drag
• Dig, dump, partial dump
• Stopped empty, stopped loaded
• Travel empty, travel loaded
• Miscellaneous
• Key off – engine on, key on – engine off

Supports the following metrics:

• Cycle counts
• Distance traveled
• Fuel used
• Payload moved/payload loaded
• Duration
• GPS location

Transactional Payload Data

• Provides a record of all stored trucks loaded with the
individual bucket weights. The raw payload data can be
downloaded as a file (CSV format) for further analysis
in applications such as Microsoft® EXCEL™.

CPM 2.0 – Simplified Payload Mode
A new screen with reduced payload content design is available
for customers requiring only scale functionality. Customers can
now switch between simplified and normal modes in the settings
menu (upper right button).

CPM 2.0 – Improved Truck and Material List Management

Truck ID and Material ID list capacity has been expanded
to 250 entries for each list.

On-board List Management

• Customers can add/delete truck and material ID using
the touchscreen display or full editing in Electronic
Technician (ET).
• The touchscreen is alpha/numeric only while ET allows use
of symbols/characters.
• ET replaces the VIMSpc method and supports larger lists.

 Off-board List Management
• Truck and material ID editing is available using Advanced
Productivity/VisionLink.
• Updated entries are transmitted wirelessly to the machine
(requires an Advanced Productivity subscription in
VisionLink and Product Link Elite PLE641 cellular
connection).
• Common truck and material site lists can be downloaded
and uploaded to entire fleet.

Upgrading and Retrofits

Current CPM users can upgrade to CPM 2.0 features via
a software update through their dealer service department.
(There is no charge for the software, however labor, travel time
and mileage are not included. Requires telematics hardware
upgrade if Product Link Elite is not already installed.)

L Series loaders shipped without CPM factory installed, may be

retrofitted with CPM 2.0 using CPM hardware kit p/n 435-3406
(requires Product Link Elite if not already installed).

Also, there is a software activation charge for enabling the CPM.

The current price for the activation charge can be found in
ANTARES under the CPM 2.0 SEA activation code part
number: 517-4683. (Note: this is NOT a firmware flash file
part number.)

Operator ID
Operator ID functionality is included as standard and can be
enabled via ET. Upon machine startup, an operator’s specific
passcode can be entered. The machine can be operated without
specifying Operator passcode and the screen will go away after
awhile. A bypass button is available if selecting Operator ID
is not required or desired.
• Key benefit – ability to track operators via VisionLink
Advanced Productivity and through general VisionLink screens.
• Operator ID only records who the operator is and does not
set any settings or preferences.
• Additional configurations are available that work with
Operator ID including:
– Security enable (factory password required) – when
enabled, this prevents machine operation until either a
correct passcode is entered or a registered RFID is used.
{ This is the MSS replacement when used with RFID, but

also adds ability to work with passcode (no RFID).

– RFID hardware enable – is enabled when there is an
RFID reader present to be used with Security.
Note: There are no plans to support RFID reader without
Security Enable.

Improved Fuel Data in Totals/Trips Screens

• Increased accuracy of displayed data when using totals
screens for short durations of machine operation.
– Resolves issue where total fuel was only displayed at
0.5 L (0.125 gal) resolution.
– Improved total fuel, average fuel rate and production
efficiency displayed data as they use this total fuel data.
• Operating hours in trip total changed resolution from
0.0001 hour to 0.1 hour.
• Total fuel is now included in trip totals.

 Cat Object Detection*
Integrated Cat Object Detection is a radar system that warns
an operator of an object in critical zone while going in reverse.
• A scalable system composed of camera** and radar designed
to increase perimeter awareness around the machine
• Increased awareness of the working environment enhances
site safety
• Integrates camera** images and radar detections,
medium range: 1-20 m (3-66 ft), 115° viewing angle.
**Cat detect radar system is offered as an enhancement and
should not be relied upon in place of visibility to objects behind
the machine
**Camera is included as standard equipment

Standard Seat: Seat Back Recline Mechanism Improvement Operator Comfort and Safety
The new seat design includes an improved seat back recline
mechanism to improve seat back rigidity, especially during
directional shifts. The recline setting is simplified and easier to
adjust. As a result, the optional four-point harness is simplified
and symmetric.

 Ingress/Egress Lighting
Available kit adds an LED light at the left rear of the cab.
• Light activates along with the rear cab convenience lighting.
– Light comes on when disconnect is on, key is off and cab
door opens.
– Light stays on for two minutes then shuts off.
• Illuminates the platform, steps and ground.

External Fire Extinguisher Mount

• Provides mount for 4.5 kg (10 lb) fire extinguisher on the left
side of the cab.
• Located above the platform.
• Available as Kit Only.

Full LED Lights Package
• Full LED package now available.
• Longer lasting LED lights provide cleaner light output.

Variable Backup Alarm

• Self-adjusting to 5 dB above ambient sound level.
• Direct replacement for existing backup alarm with no wiring
or mounting changes.
• Refer to PELJ1239 for information – 267-2145. Alarm can
be ordered from parts depots.

Washer Fluid Reservoir Relocation

• Relocated from right platform to left rear cab.
• Easy to check level and refill from left platform.
• Eliminates debris falling from platform into and
around reservoir.

 Beacon Mount Improvement
• Stronger spring and simple up/down position.

Auto Clock
• Auto clock option, in touch screen display, is available in
the clock setting screen.
• Uses local time, as defined by UTC (synced with GPS),
and the time zone configured for Product Link through ET.
• Automatically adjusts for daylight savings time.

Cat Autolube System Serviceability
Includes the following:
• Fully integrated into machine, display and VisionLink.
• Ground level access to refill pump located on left side platform.
• Serviceable Cat hoses that are rebuildable/reusable with only
10 mm and 12 mm wrenches.
• Accessible grease zerk placement at inlet of all valves and all
grease points allows simple troubleshooting with grease gun.
• Fault codes are shown on machine display and sent
to VisionLink.
• Increased testing options from machine display.

 Service Lighting
Kit now available that adds four LED lights to make daily
maintenance more convenient to cover the following areas:
• Left side cooling package
• Right side cooling package
• Transmission sight glass
• Coolant tank

Lights are activated with a switch under the left platform, next
to the hood tilt and remote door opener switch. Once the lights
are activated, they will deactivate after 30 minutes to prevent
battery drain.
