General Consul Hon. Jerrill G. Santos

A Biography
In February 1959, In San Fernando, Pampanga, A
pure blooded and now a well-known person named
Jerrill Galban Santos was born and raised by his
parents. He graduated his degree Bachelor of Science
in Foreign Service at University of the Philippines and
finished his Master of Arts at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts
University, as a Fulbright scholar in Massachusetts. Santos graduated in 2007 with a
journalism degree from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He had interned for
the investigative news magazine Newsbreak, and had gotten a permanent role in the
news group even before he graduated. Newsbreak was run by the same people – or
women – who now run Rappler.

Jerrill G. Santos was the Assistant Secretary and Chief of Protocol at the
Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila. He is the current Chief of Mission of the
Philippine Embassy in Vietnam which he assumed in 2009. He has been with the
Department of Foreign Affairs since the 1980s and is a recipient of the Gawad Mabini,
with a rank of Dakilang Kasugo (2007) and the Order of Sikatuna, with a rank of Datu
(2009). He was among the Outstanding Fernandino Award honorees in 2012. While in
the In the Philippines, he also served as the Chief of Presidential Protocol at the Office
of the President. His last foreign assignment was as Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for 6 years, from December 2009 to
January 2016. Since joining the Philippine foreign service in 1979, He served as the
Department of Foreign Affairs in different capacities and served abroad also in different
capacities in Seoul, Korea; Tokyo, Japan; and Ottawa, Canada.

To conclude, Jerrill G. Santos helps in the development and implementation of

his country's foreign policy. Individuals cannot exist without social interactions, and
states cannot exist without forming relationships with others; the more the international
contacts, the greater the chances of representing a particular viewpoint and pursuing
national objectives on the international stage.
