Topic 1: Talk about your study at university.

My name is H. I’m a second-year student at Hanoi University of

Industry and majoring in mechanical engineering. It is a full-time course
which lasts four years. I have studied many subjects so far and I find
Cutting Tools Design most difficult because this subject requires high
accuracy and knowledge about the properties of materials. Besides, the
subject making me feel excited, interested is English. I enjoy it most
because it helps me a lot in future. At the university, I can improve five
important learning skills: note-taking skills, organization skills,
presentation skills, time management skills and teamwork
skills..,studying at university has benefits. I can meet and know many
friends from different places. In addition, I’m taught about machines,
practical knowledge. My lecturers and friends are very helpful and
friendly. Therefore, I love studying at HAUI so much.

Topic 2: Talk about some machine tools you know.

● What are they?
● Do you know any machine parts?
● What are their functions?
● Which machine tools will you work with in the future?
My name is H. I’m a second-year student at Hanoi University of
Industry and majoring in mechanical engineering. I’m practicing to use
some machines, such as: lathes, milling machine, bandsaw, … Machine
tools have different components and functions. First, milling machine
has four main components: axis, table, body and control panel. It’s used
to flatten surfaces and add holes or slots. Next, the bandsaw considered
as our specially product, can cut through even the toughest (/tʌf/)
materials. In the future, I think I will have to work with bandsaw
because I want to become a mechanical engineer and work for a big
company at HP city.
Topic 3: Look at the design drawing of the shaft and the dimension of
the actual object. Write a report and decide whether the shaft is
accepted or rejected.

Inspector’s measurement
Shaft length 50.05 mm
Diameter 6.000 mm
Hole depth 10.30 mm

I’m an inspector from Quality Control department in Samsung

Company. Yesterday, I checked your product – the shaft and found some
design mistakes. In the design drawing of the shaft, it is 50 millimeters
plus or minus 0.25 millimeter and the length of the actual shaft is 50.05
millimeters. It is inside tolerance. Next, the diameter of the shaft in the
drawing is 6.010 mm plus or minus 0.004 mm, so the minimum diameter
of the actual shaft is 6.006 mm. But its actual diameter is 6.000 mm and
it is out of tolerance. Finally, the hole depth of the shaft varies between
9.75 mm and 10.25 mm. And the actual hole depth is 10.30 mm. what a
pity! Your product is rejected. I hope you can produce better products.

Topic 4: Look at the diagram and classify engineering materials.

the materials can be classified into four main types: metals, polymer
materials, ceramic, composite materials. the most commonly used
materials are metals. There are two types of metals: ferrous and non-
ferrous. Ferrous metal has iron. Non-ferrous metal includes copper, zinc,
tin, aluminum. And alloys are mixtures of two metal, for example: steel,
brass, bronze, aluminum alloys, … Next, polymer materials are divided
into two types: plastics and rubber. Their properties are ductile and
durable so they are used widely all over the world. Ceramic and
composite are also important materials in mechanical engineering.
Ceramic has the properties of brittleness and heat-resistance, Composite
is abrasion-resistant. All materials are necessary for human and play an
important part in human’s life.

Topic 5: As an engineer, report your design process and problems to

manager. (gộp u5+7):
● What project are you working on?
● What step are you in?
● Are you on schedule?
● What problems do you have during the process?
● What are your solutions to the problems?

Hello, my name is Anh and I’m an engineer working at Samsung

company. Now, I report about my design process, the problems that
happened during the process and the solutions. I am designing a new
lathe machine. It will have been finished by the end of April. I
developed a few preliminary designs and sketches. At present, I’m in the
stage of feasibility study. However, I had some problems. There is a
discrepancy between drawing 24A and 26A, which indicates conflicting
the dimension for the length of the lathe axis. The correct dimension is
on drawing 24A, so I should disregard the dims of drawing 26A. I think
I must revise all drawings to make sure that there is no problem longer.
Don’t worry! The project will be finished soon.

Topic 6: Describe your own designed robot.

Hello, I’m Anh. I am an engineer at AI company. My company is

developing a new multipurpose (/ˌmʌltiˈpɜːpəs/) robot called Blue. It’s
shaped rather like a human. The robot is made of aluminum alloy so it
only weighs 24 kg and the height is 1.2 m. Blue has three main
components a humanlike body, a processor and sensors. First, its body
has two legs and two arms with joints, knees and wrists which can make
the robot move more flexibly and similarly to human, so it can hold
things like people. Next, the sensors are installed on the other
components to get information. Then, the information from the sensors
is used to navigate pathways for the robot or to do something. The
processor, the most important part of the robot, is Blue’s brain. It is used
for receiving information from sensors and controlling its body. It is
powered by a 53.8 voltage (/ˈvəʊltɪdʒ/) battery and controlled by voice
commands (/kəˈmɑːnd/). The robot has the ability to do housework, serve
meals and talk with people. It only costs 30 millions VND, which is
reasonable for Vietnamese people to afford. I like it because it is very
useful in modern life. I believe Blue will be popular in the future.

Topic 7: Talk about your ideal job in the future.

● What is your ideal job?
● What kind of working hours would you prefer?
● What will your job involve?
● What is the best thing about your job?
● Which benefit may interest you most?
Hello, my name is Bac. I’m a second-year student at Hanoi University of
Industry and majoring in mechatronic engineering of mechanical faculty.
I am going to talk about my ideal job which I will have after graduating
from HaUI. I intend to work as a design engineer in AI Company. I will
be responsible for designing and manufacturing AI Robots to support
public. I want to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week because I would like
to spend weekends at home with my family. AI Company offers its
employees many benefits including high salary, good workplaces and
modern facilities. I hope to get afrom 5000 to 6000 dollars salary a
month . I want to apply for this job because manufacturing robot is my
dream.
