Palo Alto, CA — This time around OSU Junior
Laura Carlyle had her own school record in her
sights as she toed the line for the 1500m at
the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford Uni-
versity on Sunday. Carlyle shattered that
record, which she set in 2010 with a 4:23.86,
by clocking an impressive 4:18.73 and taking
third in her section.
"It was a great field today.” Oregon State
head track coach Kelly Sullivan said following
the meet. "She reached another level today.
She isn't one to show a lot of emotion, but she
4:18.73 was very happy and excited."
Carlyle ran aggressively from the gun hit-
1500m ting opening splits of 69 seconds at 400m and
2:18 at 800m, she was never any further back
than fourth throughout the race and battled for
VIDEO — News Article position all the way through the finish line.
“She told me she turned her brain off and said to herself „I really want
this no matter how I feel‟, a big step for sure,” said Sullivan.
Cobb Track and Angell Field has become a comfortable venue for Car-
lyle, she broke the school record in the 5000m, by running a 16:19, one
month earlier at the Stanford Invitational.
Her 1500m effort on Sunday, was only her second of the season, her
opening time of 4:26.34 at the Mt. Sac Relays was hampered by a very
crowded and slowly paced race and not feeling her best.
“Despite the outcome, I learned a lot from the race at Mt. Sac, which
helped me accomplish everything I wanted this weekend,” said Carlyle.
Carlyle also showed her range by running a solo 800m in a 2:09 per-
sonal record and won the John Knight Invitational on April 9th.
Carlyle is slated to run the 1500m at the Pac-10 Championships,
hosted by the University of Arizona on May 13-14 in Tucson, Arizona.
“I had a lot of fun this weekend and can‟t wait for the next one,” said
Carlyle after arriving back home in Corvallis. She now owns four school re-
cords total, the others also coming in the indoor mile and indoor 3000, not
bad for a girl who never ran in high school, Read more about her story:

Redshirt Freshman Audrey Botti has had a
very solid 2011 season already, lowering
her PR in the 1500 to 4:40, but her 17:19
5000m debut at the Oregon Relays really
showcased the type of ability and potential
she possesses and how far she‟s come
from her 10:33 3k HS PR.

Outstanding Recruiting Class
Coach Sullivan has had his eye on a runner,
who hails from the Oregon Coast like himself, in
Raelyn Robinson for a few years. Robinson is a Two-
Time Oregon 4A State Champion, 1500m and Cross
Country, and certainly knows what it is like to be part
of a winning program at Siuslaw HS. While Raelyn
was leading the way for the Vikings, they won three
team State Championships in Cross Country.
She put together 10 All-State performances
including finishing 2nd in the state in the 800m and
three top five cross country finishes in her HS career.
She has personal bests and school records of 18:17
5k cross country, 4:42 in the 1500m, and 2:18 in the
800m.
She choose OSU because, “Kelly is the coach I
want to run for without a doubt, he reminds me most
of my high school coach, and that is exactly what I
was looking for and most important in my decision.
Add in the amazing team, the facilities, and Corvallis
itself and I‟m very excited and feel blessed to be to be
going to OSU.”
Coach Sullivan echoes Robinson enthusiasm,
about the decision, “I‟m really excited about Raelyn. I
had opportunities to watch her over last couple years.
I feel like she is a great fit, a tremendous talent com-
Raelyn Robinson ing from one of the best programs in state history and
a great coach, who is a good friend of mine. I want to
give a lot of credit to our assistant coach Travis
Floeck, who was a key person in recruiting her. We
feel we have landed one of the top kids in the
northwest and added to an incredible class.”
