BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE


● Aerobic dance is a form of exercise where movement is combined with music and dance
routines to improve cardiovascular fitness and mental health.
● Regular and active participation in aerobic dance improve mainly the cardiovascular
endurance, and it brings good psychological health, according to the World Health
Organization (WHO).

● It takes around two months to see physical improvement and as well establishing a habit
as part of a fitness routine.

● Improve conditioning of the respiratory and circulatory systems, which results in
decreases risk of cardiovascular disease, better handling of stress, improved ability to
relax, and greater energy and vitality
● Improve strong joints, firmer muscles, postural alignment, a decrease in body fat, and
better digestion
● Improve physical health and appearance, self-esteem and self-confidence
● Impacts the body systems in ways that alleviate depression
● Develop coordination, balance, and memory
HISTORY
Dr. Kenneth Cooper
- Published “AEROBICS” in 1968.
- He conducted research studies of Air Force personnel in 60’s
- He found out that the key to fitness is the ability to take in and deliver oxygen to entire
body. The emphasis was only jogging and swimming.

JACKI SORENSEN
- "mother of aerobic dancing"
- She adapted Cooper’s style, combined with 12-minute run/walk test in dance training.
- Created a new form of aerobic movement called AEROBIC DANCE.

GIN MILLER
- added attraction when she introduced bench-stepping equipment.
